To the side of The Eclipse Inn is a little alley that runs from the cathedral to the High Street. In the alley is a door and the door leads into St Lawrence Church.

It is very easy to walk past the door and not even notice it is there.

Walk in and you will find yourself in a delightful little mediaeval church, built on the site of the Chapelle Royale of William the Conqueror.

On leaving I was pleased to see a display on endangered Christians and information on the excellent work Canon Andrew White is doing to bring peace and reconciliation to Iraq.

St Lawrence is linked to another delightful little church the other side of the cathedral, St Swithun-upon-Kingsgate. It is located above one of the gates into the city and like St Lawrence, it is easily missed.

If you need a minute of peace and quiet, a place to bring your serenity back step into St Lawrence and you will find a calm, relaxing atmosphere. Don't miss the carvings and the amazing roof and organ. Nice interiors of this gothic simplicity.

Not very big, but it is a little gem tucked away in the lanes, that you can easily miss. But it is definitely worth a visit.

Not a huge lot to see, but a lovely little church by the walk-through to Market Square from the Buttercross. You can tell how old this building is by the way the v.old buildings on the High Street side are literally leant up against it (apparently they had to spend lots of money making it more stable and secure when they discovered this fairly recently). Definitely pop in, but I wouldn't expect you to spend more than a few minutes there. Oh, and don't miss the oldest bit of all - the small lion's head that sticks out of the wall to the top/right as you look back towards the entrance.
