“Gorgeous B&B”
Reviewed 18 September 2013

My husband I stayed in this fabulous B&B in Sept 2013 before travelling on to go to the Goodwood Revival. The house and rooms are beautifully presented and spotless and the breakfast was fabulous. Olivia is very welcoming and helpful and we would certainly opt to stay here again should we visit Winchester.

Olivia's B&B is very comfy and beautifully decorated with artworks and antique furniture. Great for our family of five as we had the whole place to ourselves in three separate rooms. Olivia served us a beautiful cooked breakfast in the morning in her dining room. Parking was easy straight outside on the street, and we could walk to the cathedral and into the town in 10 minutes. If you get to the cathedral at 5 pm you can catch evensong and hear the Winchester boys cathedral choir. A great place for dinner is Jamie Oliver's Union Jacks restaurant in the High street.

When visiting WInchester from The States, we wanted a place that felt authentic and natural, not touristy and not trendy. We also wanted something in easy walking distance from the city centre. We could not have been more delighted.

29 Christchurch Rd is a beautiful Restoration Era home, decorated by an art lover. It is not overstated. It is elegant and peaceful. Our big English Breakfasts in her beautiful dining room were a treat. A beautifully set table and wonderful company everyday (was the single solo above the guest we met from Hong Kong?). The food was delicious. And yes, the place was immaculate.

But what I really want to say is how far out of her way Mrs. Featherstone-Dilke went to make the stay wonderful for myself and my elderly mother. She took a personal interest in us to a degree that I never expected, going far beyond the call of duty out of her concern to make sure my mother's stay was comfortable and safe.

I stayed at this B&B for one night, and wished I could have stayed longer... The welcome was very warm, and the hostess' recommendations on the sights were spot on. It is located in a peaceful residential area, and a short walk from the city centre and the main attractions. The rooms and bathrooms were immaculate, and the bed was so comfortable! The breakfast was served in a charming breakfast room and it was delicious and very filling. And, Winchester is also very beautiful and worth visiting. I have nothing bad to say, I highly recommend 29 Christchurch road!

I'm not sure I can explain how wonderful 29 Christchurch Road is; how quietly sophisticated it is--situated on a tony residential road within walking distance to the Gurkha Museum, the Guildhall and the Cathedral. As soon as you cross the threshold and enter the large entry hall with wide board oak floors covered in oriental carpets you know it will be special. I stayed in the single room with sash windows that opened (with an intact pulley system) onto a clematis armandii in full bloom! The bedding was crisp, the mattress firm but not buddhist-monk. Everything was anticipated---bedside reading light, dressing gown, small alarm clock.
The bathroom was large, modern and immaculate with both shower and bath and large towel warmer.

We stayed with Mrs Featherstone-Dilkes at her beautifully appointed home last week. Having finally completed the South Downs Way we arrived muddy, tired but satisfied and longing for a hot bath. Despite her immaculate hall, she didn't banish us to the back door but laid down paper for our muddy boots and set us up with fresh milk for our cup of tea whilst we ran our baths. After a long sleep in very comfy beds she gave us a delicious breakfast the next day - fresh fruit, yoghurt, the full English and home-made jams and marmalade. A VERY good way to end a long walk.

This was really a lovely stay. It's in a quiet but fairly central part of town (the walk into the centre is very pleasant), and we were given a friendly welcome. The rooms are extremely well kept- the house is old and full of antiques yet seems brand new! Breakfast is cooked to order in served in a lovely peaceful dining room surrounded by a garden. The bathroom we had was so warm (it was cold outside!) and had little Molton Brown products supplied... altogether this B&B is worth the money.
