Quiet, central location in leafy street in the heart of Winchester. In ten minutes you can be at the pedestrian precinct shops and market, or at the cathedral, or looking at Jane Austen's last accommodation, or watching the old water mill or eating in one of the city's good restaurants. In thirty minutes you can stroll along the water meadows of the river Itchen on a well marked path to St Cross church, almshouses, cafe (excellent tea and home-made cake) and walled garden. Or you can walk up St Catherine's Hill for the amazing 360 view of Hampshire (about 50 minutes).
Christine is a warm and welcoming hostess. Breakfast is delicious, generous, prepared for when it suits you, with a view of delightful walled garden.

I spent two nights at the Cathedral Cottage , a gem within Winchester. The garden room was relaxing, charming and well equipped, set in the most beautiful surroundings with a wonderful walk to breakfast, which in itself set a scenery of grape vines and sun. The breakfast was divine, with an array of tantalising selections made the way I like. Christine was the most hospitable guest-house owner I have encountered, with an extensive knowledge of the city. Location wise, the proximity to all local attractions is a definite benefit to the accommodation. My experience left me with value for money, a good fruitful trip, and an acquaintance with Winchesters finest guest-house owner. Thank you.

Room Tip: A couple would be best suited for this accommodation. Although all that was on offer was great quali...

I spent two nights at Cathedral cottage and it lived up to all the lovey remarks made in earlier revues, The garden room was a perfect place for a good night’s sleep away from the hurly-burly and it was a delight to walk through the garden in the morning to an excellent breakfast. Christine and Gareth were perfect hosts and I enjoyed the recommendations they made for making the best of a couple of days in Winchester. The cathedral and all of the other attractions are within easy reach and you are within minutes of the start to a delightful walk down the bank of the river to St John’s Hospital which has a history that goes back a 1000 years. As others have remarked Christine and Gareth have a wealth of stories of their pass adventures on the high seas. The adventure continues very soon when Gareth takes part in the Jubilee River Pageant on the Thames. I will be watching out for the boat he will be crewing that day and giving the ‘Wazname’ a wave.

Quiet, peaceful, central location. Cosy cottage.
Only complaint - bed against one wall making it awkward if you need to go to bathroom in middle of night.
