My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights over New Year and had an excellent time. The room was warm and clean, the shower large with plenty of hot water and the "extras" were better than in most places we have stayed e.g. ground coffee/ mineral water etc. The pub/restaurant served delicious food and on New Years eve there was a particularly sumptuous menu - the venison was amazing as were the desserts!!! The staff were particularly helpful and pleasant. Would highly recommend staying here even in the midst of winter.

We stayed at the Running Horse with our children and 4 grandchildren under 5yrs. of age. I cannot tell you how pleasant a stay it was. The staff were brilliant, absolutely fantastic with the children, the rooms were very comfortable, well equipped and clean, The bedding was beautiful cotton and the the food was excellent…they told the children that they didn't have a children's menu as such but that they could have anything they wanted. The stay culminated with the head chef rescuing my son-in-law from a fate worse than death after he (the son-in-law) had locked his car keys in the boot, threatening a visit to Santa…..we did not realise how useful a meat hook could be, thank you to all and a happy Christmas

Room Tip: They were all good and they have a room for disabled visitors

The Running Horse is a stylish, casual and friendly establishment not far from Winchester. They have a small but good selection of local beers, and the food was very good indeed. Our party had fish and chips (which was exactly as it should be), and duck breast (delicious, cooked right if a bit chewy, and beautifully accompanied by sauteed new potatoes). I thought the most interesting dish, though, was the pork belly: it was wonderfully flavourful, rich, melt-in-your-mouth tender, and with a nicely browned and slightly chewy bottom. The vegetable accompaniments (leek, mash) were lovely, and the amusing "wing" garnish (yes, apparently pigs fly in these parts) was actually a piece of very thin and crispy crackling. I thought the dish would have flown even better with two wings, so delicious was that little morsel. The desserts -- homemade ice creams and a freshly-baked blackberry tart -- were excellent as well.
We received a warm welcome, and enjoyed the friendly, capable and accommodating service. The bill was very reasonable considering the quality of food and the service we enjoyed. When we're near Winchester, we'll make a dash for the Running Horse again.

Stayed for 2 nights b&b whilest visiting Winchester and New Forest. The room was very clean and had everything we needed, the twin beds were very comfortable with good quality bedding and towels.Plenty of hot water.
We ate both evenings in the restuarant and had very good meals, also enjoyed breakfasts.
My only disappointment was that our room was not attended after the first night, ie the beds were not made or the dirty cups removed and cleaned when we returned the second day, I would have expected for the price we paid that this would have been normal procedure.

What a find....came across this pub accidentally on the internet while looking for a B&B.....what a find!

From the moment we arrived the staff were really helpful and the accommodation lovely, really decent sized rooms with very comfortable beds.

And as for the pub the only word that sums it up is superb! Absolutely beautiful inside with really fantastic food (please try the pork....wow!) and very moorish ale, and the staff could not be more helpful. Will definitely find an excuse to return!

Thanks for a great experience

We stayed for one night before a trip to Peppa Pig world.

We eat at the pub. The term GastroPub has been over used since the first days of the Eagle in the London but the food on offer here is of the highest standard. Coupled with great service a clean spacious room and a killer breakfast this place is a real gem. We will return.
