“Lovely experience”
Reviewed 20 May 2014

We had such a lovely stay at Lainston House Hotel. First thing we noticed was the excellent, accommodating and friendly service, nothing was too much trouble and everyone was happy and there to help. Dinner was gorgeous with lovely service. There was a wedding on but you didn't notice as they used a separate building. We liked the complimentary biscuits when we requested the fresh milk. Loved the room, very tasteful and loved the TV in the bathroom! Really nice toiletries too. We had a wander round the vegetable garden but it was raining heavily so didn't get much time to tour the grounds. We had a brilliant stay here mainly because everything was so tasteful and staff so accommodating.

A lovely hotel, lovely and attentive staff right through from checking in to dinner and drinks. Room was beautiful - we were given an upgrade to a suite (willow room) which was a lovely touch for our anniversary. Being quite tall I had to watch my head a little with the sloping roof in the bathroom but this was a minor inconvenience.
Only slight reservations were - the shower was poor with no pressure and a rusty old shower head and the side shower heads barely worked.
Dinner was really nice and service impeccable and friendly although the portion size was a bit small and a lot of the dishes had fish/shellfish so I wasn't able to have a starter as i didn't like any of the offerings.
There was a wedding on site but you wouldn't have known it as the wedding venue was away from the main body of the hotel so there was no noise at all.
It was a shame the weather was poor as we'd have liked to have had a proper walk round the amazing grounds of the hotel.
I would say this is a lovely place to stay - the staff particularly make a difference - nothing is too much trouble.

A perfect base for a weekend away. Fantastic grounds, Grinlay Gibbons carvings in lounge, great tasting menu and beautifully appointed room. Fabulous bathroom. What more could you want for a weekend away?

Dear Harrisparents,
Thank you for your great review of Lainston House. I agree with you, the grounds are looking stunning and definitely keeping our grounds team busy.

There is no better place to unwind that the Cedar bar, with good company and perhaps a Martini and it is great to see that you had an enjoyable experience.

Looking forward to seeing you back soon.

We arrived and everything looked good. Valet parking nice booking in experience and a room upgrade to the rose room. Perfect so far we were really impressed. We fancied a coffee and biscuits sadly no biscuits and did not feel we should ask for them so went without. Next was to enjoy the garden with a nice beer and crisps. By the time the 2 small bowls of crisps arrived we had finished our beer! Next the dinner - nice surroundings lovely staff and good service. The dinner very disappointing just passable with very little on the plate and a tiny bit of vegetable. The extra chips were the thin crispy type pretty well lacked potato. We had read the room service for breakfast and thought we would have the same choice. But my hope of smoked haddock was not available. I ordered 2 fried eggs and got 2 very burnt griddled eggs. I did not complain as I do not see it is my place to teach the chef how to cook. Indeed the menu also needs not to say fried eggs. The fruit looked very appetising but apart from the pineapple was too hard to eat. The bacon was very poor quality and the eggs small. I was lucky to move to a 3 star hotel in Bournemouth for my next night and it was faultless with a wonderful breakfast. Of course it was a fraction of the price. Lainston House you are a disgrace. Dear Mrs Ellis,
Thank you for taking the time to review Lainston House. We welcome all honest feedback as an opportunity to monitor and improve our guest experience for future visits.

I was delighted to see that you enjoyed the complimentary upgrade to one of our Junior Suites, and that the arrival and welcome met your expectations, but obviously disappointed to hear your overall perception of your experience.

The team works hard to enhance guest experiences and they all do their utmost to meet guest requirements but when something is not quite right we are always at hand to put things right.

We offer complimentary fresh milk and freshly baked biscuits through our room service and I am sorry if this was not explained to you on arrival (there is also a card explaining this with the complimentary tea & coffee in the room).

The quality of our eggs, from a local farm, and our bacon, from our own reared pigs, is constantly monitored and I am sure the kitchen would have been happy to re-cook your breakfast to your liking.

I believe that most of the shortcomings you experienced would have been easily rectified had the team been made aware of your disappointment and I am sorry to hear that you chose not to share it with them on the day.

I had the opportunity to personally meet you on check out and having received a very complimentary account of your visit then I was surprised to read your review - Rest assured we will continue to monitor our guest feedback in the future.

Kind regards

I have been fortunate to stay in some excellent hotels over the years - particularly in the Far East/Middle East where some of the hotels have been outstanding. Lainston House is the closest hotel to where I live and yet it is probably one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in.

We booked a traditional suite which was superb. Spacious, comfortable and with a Spa bath that was to die for.

Food was excellent as was the service. Friendly and very efficient staff and fantastic surroundings.

We booked both an archery and falconry experience and both were great. Fred (archery) was a true gent and very encouraging. This experience is highly recommended.

I just can't fault this hotel - well done all. We'll be back one day!

Room Tip: Can't fault the traditional suite!

There are plenty of reviews that talk about the hotel, the grounds, the rooms and the staff. All frankly excellent, if a little pricey.

However, we chose to stay because we were in an electric car on our way to the ferry in Portsmouth. The recharge point was perfect for an overnight charge, and what a special place to be! Dinner was too much for our family of 5 but if you walk out the house and off to the left up the lane and down over the field you will find an awesome pub!

We will return... Lainston house is exceptional.

Dear markgemmell,
Thank you for taking the time to post a review of Lainston House. I am really pleased to hear that you found us when looking for an electric car charging point - We are really proud to be one of the first hotels in the area to offer this service complimentary to our guests (it is extremely popular already). In fact all Exclusive Hotels offer this facility and I hope you find their locations useful too.

We offer different dining alternatives at the hotel - from the fine dining 3 AA rosette Avenue restaurant to the more informal Terrace menu. I believe both options constitute outstanding value, specially when compared to other 5 star country house hotels in Hampshire and I hope you chose to try our food on your next visit - We are looking forward to it.

Spent the weekend 02 May at Lainston House. What a fantastic hotel with the most stunning views. Celebrated our Wedding Anniversary here and enjoyed dinner at The Avenue. Beautiful food and relaxed ambience. Got an apology from the waitress regarding the main course being delayed, and was brought another little starter to make up for it, which was really not a problem at all. Enjoyed our pre dinner cocktail. Stayed in the Mulberry room, which was so comfortable and a matress to die for! Looking forward to spending time here again in the future.

Room Tip: I don't think you could go wrong with any of the rooms
