“Wedding Bliss”
Reviewed 9 September 2013

We stayed at the hotel on 6th and 7th of September along with 30 of our family and friends for our wedding.
Having booked the hotel package my new wife and I cannot speak highly enough of Shellie our wedding co coordinator and the whole of the team involved who were pleasant, polite and very helpful and nothing was too much to ask for.
Some of the rooms were a little tired but we understand the hotel is in the process of an overhaul however our bridal suite was excellent.
All the rooms had really comfortable beds and the pool and leisure facilities were good.
Breakfast got full marks from everyone and little extras like dvd's being available and an x box with games which kept the children happy really helped.
As for the wedding - Again nothing was too much and Shellie and her team moved around quietly and efficiently and kept everything moving like clockwork.
The ceremony was in the Ashstead Room which was great followed by the meal and evening reception in the Maplethorpe Suite. Beautiful setting for photos.
Wedding breakfast food was superb along with a hog roast in the evening. Thank you kitchen team.
Last thing to say is if you are considering a wedding then look closely at this venue as there was constant communication from the beginning reducing the stress to the finishing touches in our room on our wedding night.
THANK YOU MARWELL - You made our day very special.

This hotel is in a wonderful setting and on the doorstep of the zoo, I was soooo hoping to hear animals at night but we were too far away (it probably would have terrified me anyway!! :-D) The glass corridors of the hotel are like tunnels through the forest, you really feel a part of the lush woodland. It's a basic hotel and has a slightly tired feel to it but you almost don't want it to change too much from that as it's probably what keeps it affordable and popular. The swimming pool with sauna, and jacuzzi was great, such a treat after walking through the zoo all day. We opted to walk to the pub for dinner (back to the main road, lovely food) but did have the included breakfast which was really lovely and the huuuuuge jug of coffee that was brought out is always a big plus in my book :-) I'd definitely recommend this hotel for a stay :-)

We stayed in a family room, with our two sons 6&4, the room was clean and well laid out. The setting in the woodland was nice, the outside play area was sturdy and well maintained (4yr-12yr). We used the swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna they were clean and we were provided with clean towels at reception. The breakfast was excellent, the staff were attentive and polite. The hotel was perfectly adequate for the price and we would stay again.

We choose the Marwell hotel & booked the Peppa pig package for my Daughter's 4th Birthday. We stayed on 31st August for 2 nights. After reading the reviews I decided to ring the hotel and upgrade our room to the Executive room as I thought we would have a better chance of a decent room. The room we stayed in, 219 was lovely. Newly decorated with beige carpet, lovely comfy beds and new modern bathroom. Could not fault it. We even went down to reception and borrowed a dvd player and choose from a list of dvd's to watch for the 2 children to fall asleep to.

First impressions were really nice. Nice looking hotel and really good if you wanted to visit Marwell Zoo which is right next to the hotel.

Breakfast was lovely but my little girl wasn't too impressed that they had ran out of beans on the second morning but we managed without them.

We used the swimming pool, jaccuzzi and sauna on the 2nd night and went in at 8pm and had them all to ourselves which was really nice. My 11 year old son also used the x box console in the reception area which he was really impressed with.

All in all it was a lovely stay. My little girl did not want to leave. We would definitely stay here again if we were in the area.

Lastly I did want to mention the glass corridors. After reading other reviews, I got the impression that they were open corridors but they are not. They are all glass sides that are alight of a night and give the outside forest feel. Really nice.

Room Tip: The Executive rooms are well worth that extra money.

I stayed here with my husband and family. We stayed in a superior family room which was dark and tired. The bathroom wasn't as bad as expected but still dated. The rooms are hot with limited ventilation and generally the whole hotel needs updating. The positives, check in was quick, food in the bar was good, I did find it odd that they had fine dining in the restaurant when there a lot of families, consequently we all had to squeeze into an upstairs area to eat normal family fayre. We did eat in the Fishers Pond, I think it was called, down the road which was lovely. Location is good for the zoo as you can walk, would I stay here again, no, you get better value and standard of room in a premier inn. There is no monetary benefit in staying here if visiting the zoo as you don't get any savings. I think the hair dryer in the room could sum up the standard of room old fashioned smoke stained yellow with a button you have to keep your finger on to make it work!

Room Tip: Choose a premier inn

My partner and I stayed here a few weeks ago on the summer romantic retreat package. We paid extra to upgrade our room which according to an email from Marwell 'had recently been refurbished' but we didn't see any evidence of this.
The bedside cabinet was worn and broken, the light above the bed was cracked, the vent in the bathroom was so full of dust nothing would get through it.
The view from our room (107) was hardly romantic, a blue shipping container and mini digger were set amongst the 'tranquil woodland.'
The leisure facilities consist of 2 treadmills in a cramped room, wet and dirty changing area by the pool.
We struggled to get a hair dryer in our room, surely these items are standard in hotels these days!
We ate in the restaurant which is very dated with wicker chairs and a completely soulless atmosphere. The food was in fact the only good part of our stay at Marwell.
We wrote to the general manager 2 weeks ago with our complaints and to date haven't even received an acknowledgement let alone any explanation or apology.
We won't be returning to Marwell ever again.

Rooms dated, small and cramped. We had a super deluxe. Dread to think what a standard room would have been like. Staff not user friendly and gave impression they did not like children around, although most of the guests were with young children! Restaurant totally overpriced. They seems to be trying to do a gourmet menu for families - not necessary and a more suitable children's menu would have been appreciated. Grounds need overhaul and a good clean up. Pool good, but changing rooms were very wet and dirty. OK for Zoo as you could walk there. Good pubs for family friendly food and outdoor play available within a short drive. Gym a joke, 2 running machines in a minute room. Overall very disappointing and would not go again. Check out prices as they seem to change them regularly and at will! Only large climbing frame available in gardens for children.

Room Tip: All rooms face outside and appear to be quiet. Ventilation difficult as you need to open a sliding...
