Having to visit Winchester at short notice, we were delighted to find such a charming, elegant hotel in the very centre of town. The garden room that we had booked was spacious and furnished in an attractively contemporary style. Naturally tea and coffee making facilities were provided but it was a very nice bonus to have free fresh milk in the mini bar and also a range of current glossy magazines. The bed was very comfortable with luxury bedlinen. A powerful ‘rainshower’attachment above the bath initially defeated us but the trick is first to run the bath taps for a few minutes. High quality toiletries and fluffy towels and bathrobes were provided.
We ate in the bistro and were not disappointed. The Donald Russell steak was possibly the nicest I have ever had, prompting me subsequently to order from them direct. Starters, puddings and breakfasts were also well cooked and presented.
First impressions count, and Claire on the reception desk made a very favourable first impression. She was courteous and efficient, immediately bringing up our booking and accommodated our request for an early check in without demur. In short our brief stay at the Hotel du Vin was virtually faultless and, given the opportunity, I would not hesitate to return.More
