“Above average for price but not if noise is a problem”
Reviewed 7 May 2014

We stayed over a weekend as we were attending a function in Winchester. We were aware of the DJ etc but knew we would not be back till late anyway so that was no problem.
Room was great - large and well appointed with good bed, linen and décor. En-suite relatively small for room but good big shower. We had drinks in the bar but no food or breakfast so can only comment that the general vibe was good and staff efficient and friendly.
We had a room at the front and the big downside here is the traffic noise from an early hour. Front window had secondary glazing but not the large side window which sucked in the noise!
The other problem is the large bulkhead security green light in the ceiling which means the room is very very light when the lights are switched off. I have never seen a light this big for this purpose and suggest this is fixed if they do not want a rake of complaints.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back will avoid the traffic but may have kitchen noise.

We had a fantastic deal where we had dinner, bed and breakfast. We were given a wonderful meal and bottle of wine, the next morning we had a full english breakfast and thought the standard was excellent. We were in a very comfortable room with excellent facilities. I have been back since to meet relatives as it's so well located near a car park, is very welcoming and friendly and offers an excellent experience.

Just has the most amazing Sunday lunch - roast beef and all the trimmings. I had the crab starter - delicious - my wife had the squid - really nice - will defiantly come back. The best of the group so far ( part of the white star in Southampton and the white horse on otterbourne) looking to try the bugle at hamble next.

Stayed on a sat nite. First impression of room was fab was modern yet homely. However after returning to the room after dinner could not sleep until the early hours of the mornig. I can usually handle noise yet the constant noise from the dj aswel as voices trying to talk over the music was to much. If I could have left at 23:00 I would have. Would not recommend to others

We came here for a friends party & decided to stay. We stayed in room No. 6 which is was nicely decorated & spacious with a great shower. We had a tasty meal in the restaurant downstairs & drinks in the bar. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our impromtu stay.

Room Tip: Room 6 was spacious & quiet

My wife and I spent the night here on 30 December and the room (number 6) was clean, large and with an amazing shower. In fact it was all good, aside from the expensive off-site parking and the noise from another guest and downstairs in the bar - we were woken up and kept awake on several occasions between 3 and 6am. One of these was just a drunk guest who had been locked out of his room, presumably by his wife, but there were no staff around to assist, so the noise lasted for a long time. I presume the other door slamming was from staff downstairs but impossible to know. Overall its a nice place - but use the ear plugs they provide - you will need them!

Really good location and general vibe, friendly and attentive staff helped make this stay a memorable one. The room was lovely and suited our needs perfectly. Would stay again if ever needing to be in Winchester.
