my other half managed to get us a night at the winchester on lastminute and so it was a bargain to begin with. the room service was fantastice, and the quality of the food was sublime! then the breakfast in the morning had everything you could ever have for breakfast. the staff were lovely. the facilities were vast and the quality of the room itself was brilliant. it even had a spa and pool, which was really great to use.

Room Tip: we went for a double ensuite and was perfect and spacious

The Winchester initially looks a bit unimpressive, at the back of a large council car park. Once inside it was a different story. It is well maintained, nice décor and generally very relaxing. The reception staff were very helpful and efficient.

Our room was fairly average. It had everything we needed including an ironing board and iron. The TV was a nice flatscreen with freeview. No more exceptional than a modern travel lodge (although the room was larger).

We went on a spa-break. The massage was amazing. The pool area was quite small and the pool was cold, but I presume you're supposed to get hot in the steam room or sauna then quickly chill off. The jacuzzi was lovely and warm.

The food was always excellent. The evening meal included in our spa package was fantastic and the help your self break fast was really nice too.

I gave 3 stars mainly because we had an issue with our room and there was an issue with the sauna (neither particularly major). We mentioned the issues to reception who very quickly resolved the issue and sorted them out very well. Saying that, they were issues that should've been picked up by normal maintenance checks.

Overall I enjoyed my stay, but there are so many similar spa-break hotels in this price bracket that there was nothing "leaping out at me" to get me to return time after time.

Dear Guest

Thank you so much for your review of the hotel.

I am pleased both that you enjoyed your stay with us and also that - whilst small maintenance issues can occur in any hotel from time to time - that this was resolved quickly and efficiently for you.

I booked for my wife and I to celebrate our first anniversary. I paid around £200 for 2 nights B&B, a 3 course meal on the 2nd night and a room upgrade. Room was all good, though I did wonder what the cheaper one was like or what I'd paid the extra for... an extra chair in the room perhaps!? Anyway, breakfast was lovely, service OK and dinner was good. We used the spa and had a massage which was so good I left wanting one every week! Winchester is a gorgeous place to go visit. Highly recommended all round.

We visited our friend's daughter whilst at University. The check in was quick and easy. The room, which was on the first floor overlooking the pool area, was of a good size with adequate facilities. As the room was joined, we could hear the people in the next room, but we had a good sleep. The included meal was good and service was very good. Breakfast was normal buffet for this type of hotel. The only let down was the spa facilities. We chose this hotel so we could also have a swim and use of the steam room and sauna. The sauna is only large enough for two people comfortably, the steam room is larger and can accommodate 8, the pool however is only large enough for two people to swim (4 good strokes from one end to the other). We had to wait whilst 2 sets of people had their swim before we could get in. The position of the hotel is very good, only 5 minutes walk to the centre of Winchester.

Dear Guest

Thank you for your review of the hotel.

The team will be delighted that you had an enjoyable stay.

I do note that the Health Club was smaller than you had personally hoped for but we hope that you found the facilities well presented and the team eager to assist you.

Stayed for just the one night and it was a fantastic stay. Room was ridiculously comfortable and clean. Enjoyed some drinks at the bar, staff were amazing. Had a little go in the jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. Very nice. Look forward to my second visit!!
