This is fairly small but has some really good stuff and they've made it interactive for kids and bigger kids alike. It's definitely well worth a visit and it's free too!

Learnt a lot about the history of Winchester here in a short time. Laid out well with clear and informative displays. Not boring.

A nice little museum with well presented information.

There are three floors - Iron Age / Roman at the top - Anglo Saxon in the middle - and Last century on the ground floor.

The history is well presented - and very family friendly.

There is no fixed fee - but donations are invited.

Well worth a visit - after you have been to the Cathedral.

It is some years since we visited this museum which is well placed on the corner of The Square, part way between the High Street near to the Butter Cross, and The Cathedral. We received a cheerful welcome when we arrived and a brief overview of the displays which are spread over three floors. Starting from the top we particularly enjoyed the Roman Mosaics, not a period that we usually seek out, but in this case well linked to the area and with a wealth of interesting information. The Victorian shop front reconstructions were interesting and would be of particular relevance to local residents who remember the buildings in situ. Overall, whilst not a huge Museum, it was well worth the visit and we were pleased to understand more about the history of Winchester from the Roman Period to the present time.
