I return to the Giffard House (three weeks in March 2013) and again I'm welcomed home by Peter & Yvonne. Three different rooms: 1, 3, and 12. All special. All unique. All perfect with absolutely no complaints. The rooms were quiet and spotlessly clean. The log fireplace in the sitting room was actively attended. You can sit back, relax, and enjoy. The food in the morning will delight you. I however am again reminded that writing such a review causes me problems because they bookings keep rolling in. Terrific WiFi now.

Room Tip: The WiFi is awesome now. New system. Full throttle to work.

Arrived after 11pm but was greeted by staff after a note was left on the front door to enquire at the rear. This place is a short walk from the town centre, in a very quiet street although I could hear the occasional train to the rear in the morning. Comfortable room with nice furnishings. Pristine bathroom with a huge shower - Molton Brown toiletries and plenty of fluffy towels - my only issue was the shower was a bit luke warm in the morning.
Enjoyed breakfast, having the full English with a choice of eggs, friendly staff and good quality food.
Would certainly return!

We recently stayed at the Gifford House Hotel (2nd March), and have to say this is probably the nicest independently run hotel we have stayed at, and we have stayed at a few. As soon as you walk in it is very apparent how warm and friendly this place is. Peter the owner greeted us and showed us to our room. We stayed in room 11 at the front which was just perfect for us. There is so much attention to detail here, from the immaculately made bed to the neatly folded end of the toilet roll. This place is absolutely immaculate, yet cosy at the same time. It has a very grand feel to it. When we went to the front lounge there was a roaring fire on the go, and the hotel owners dog Jerry was asleep in front of the fire which just made it even more homely.

As far as facilities go The Gifford has all you will need. A TV in each room, phones with individual numbers for each room, so family and friend can call you directly, and wi-fi.
A kettle and hairdryer are provided and a selection of teas, coffee and drinking chocolate and biscuits is supplied in your room. All the toiletries you need are also provided.

This hotel is in a very nice part of Winchester, and the city centre is just a 10 minute walk away. Having spent a nice evening in the town, we retired to our very comfortable bed. One thing to mention is the quality of all the linens and duvet, first class and all adds to the quality feel of this place.

Breakfast is served between 8.30 and 10.30 and very good it is too. There is a good choice of cereals, fresh fruit and of course a full english, but they will cook you just about anything you want. The service is very friendly and professional. They really are a nice bunch of people at the Gifford.

Although we only stayed just the one night, we left the Gifford Hotel very impressed and were so glad we stayed here rather than an anodyne out of town Travelodge. Yes you pay more here, but it is worth every penny.

In closing if you are looking for a comfortable, clean, characterful period style accommodation for a night or a week, I would not hesitate to recommend a stay here. It really is beautiful, and we will definitely be going back.

I have just had my first night of a ten night stay at Giffard House and am very impressed so far. Currently I have been given an excellent rate and put in room 4, which is beautiful, a lovely view over St Catherine's Hill with the sound of the trickling fountain outside - thoroughly relaxing!

Giffard House has an excellent reputation, which so far I find it completely deserves! The House has a rich history and a comfortable sitting room, adorned with wonderful antiques. It offers great selection of books to borrow (from classics, through to travel books all the way to modern novelists) and a lovely garden and conservatory/bar. I'm looking forward to trying the House Red which is very reasonably priced at around £15 a bottle.

Overall the "Old Country House" feel is very soothing, all the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful and breakfast was delicious and served quickly. The Free Wifi is suitable and in room tea/coffee facilities are of a high quality. The large bone china cups-and-saucers are so adorable i'm looking up them up online for purchase. Molten Brown toiletries are generous, even a nail file included for the ladies!

The cleanliness here is impeccable and the owners very welcoming and friendly. The Hotel itself is very close to town - around a five minute walk (and I wear 5inch heels!) and I believe there is nothing that Winchester cannot offer visitors. Boutique shopping, independent restaurants and cafe's, and some of the best pubs around, serving classic British ales. I recommend The Bell Inn (a ten minute walk from Giffard House) or for a long stroll, The Black Boy is unmissable for ale-lovers.

The hotel is non-smoking, although the staff were very accommodating about me having a cigarette on the garden furniture. Children will love the parrot (who dances when you whistle!) and a very friendly dog.

All in all, those looking for a quality, value-for-money and personal experience, with all the comforts and conveniences of a quaint country hotel, should look no further than Giffard house.

Room Tip: Room four is excellent - the best bath I have ever had! A great discount is available for longer sta...

Have just enjoyed a lovely two night stay at this hotel. Very comfy room (Room 1 on the first floor) with a fabulous bathroom. Great veggie breakfast and good service. Friendly staff. Highly recommended and hope to return one day.

This was an excellent place to stay. Within walking distance to Winchester, so the location was great. Good parking facilities to the side of the hotel. We used this hotel as a base because of a family christening in Southampton and we were not disappointed. It had a homely atmosphere and was spotless. You couldn't have an evening meal here but there are many restaurants in the locality to choose from. The breakfast was terrific, my husband and I recently stayed in The Gleneagles hotel in Scotland and we were as equally impressed with this hotel. It's well worth a visit with helpful staff available to assist your every need.

This is the most wonderful place to stay. Great for the Winchester Christmas Markets and other shopping. The breakfasts were delicious and nothing was any bother to the host. The rooms spotless and the same could be said of the bathroom. Warm and comfortable. My husband usually organises all the travel arrangements, from flights to hotels etc. and he normally gets it right so I was expecting great things.....I was not disappointed. Having stayed in Gleneagles the previous month you expect nothing will top that but it was equally wonderful. I would totally recommend this as a place to stay and worth every penny.
