“Expensive, average food, slow service and 50p for a drip of chocolate sauce”
Reviewed 1 July 2013

We went to this pub on Father’s Day just to try it out following some good reviews. I must say I was disappointed by the quality of food. My roast beef was incredibly chewy and tough, Yorkshire puddings did not taste right. The service was incredibly slow, we had to wait for 40 mins before the meal arrived in spite of the fact that there were just 3 of us. They did not have a wine/drink list so you could not select the wine yourself. When my daughter’s icecream arrived, we asked for a drip of chocolate sauce on it. They did put a few drops of sauce on top but then charged 50p for that! I found it was outrages given that the bill for the 3 of us with 1 course meal and 2 glasses of wine already cost us £56. So our verdict was, expensive, average or below average food, slow service. There are much better pubs in the area than this one. Will not return and will not recommend.

“afternoon tea in the garden”

What a lovely selection of goodies, the tea was as good as I have had in top London Hotels. The owners make you very welcome, and as an extra did chips for the children.

“Nice country pub”
Reviewed 17 February 2013

Happened on this lovely pub while looking for a national Trust venue near Whispnade. Really traditional decor. The staff is very friendly and attentive. For lunch we ordered garlic chicken and scampi and chips. The food is nice and the portions generous. Lovely choice of desserts available. After the really heavy meal, we ordered the desserts as a take away to eat later. The food is good, atmosphere relaxed and the menu varied and interesting. The prices are slightly above average but the service and food makes it worth it. A really enjoyable venue.
