Look carefully and you will see eggs and caterpillars on the plants, and even some pupae.Ant World- The life of leaf Cutter AntsVisit our colonies of leaf cutter ants. This species invented farming and living in a 'city'. They each have their own jobs and work together to support their Queen. Don't miss this fascinating attraction.Insect Study Center:The place to view our collection of Creepy Crawly Insects. Study our Stick insects, Cockroaches, Snails, locust, Mantis and lots more and you even get a chance to hold some of these insects during our regular Insect Handling Session.Nectar House Cafe: Enjoy a selection of hot and cold food, drinks and cakes, ice creams, etc., in a comfortable and relaxed setting.Designer Gardens: Our nineteen Designer gardens are a pleasure to take a relaxed walk through. Including three newly planted gardens this season they have been planted to attract native butterflies back into the Hertfordshire countryside.Play Area:Let the children run wild in our fantastic Natural Play area. Plenty to see even though the project is not finished due to lack of money. Make sure you do the walk around the perimeter. Good restaurant.

A sight for sore eyes - butterflies from the world in a wonderful setting. They land on you everywhere and ideal for an educational visit by children who all seemed spellbound on our visit.

Some of the negative reviews of this place are very unfair. The main tropical butterfly house is full of amazing butterflies, the leafcutter ant exhibition is fascinating, as well as the other insect displays. What some people don't seem to realise is that they have invested huge amounts of time with the extensive grounds full of beautiful flower meadows, plants and shrubs to attract butterflies and bees, as well as many magnificent show gardens. Not to mention a large children's play area and more. They also have a really nice cafe. We spent 3 hours there and I still feel I did not see everything. I couldn't rate this attraction more highly.

This is a very tranquil place and as you wander round you feel almost at one with nature. The butterfly house was lovely, and adding to the enjoyment was little quails running round your feet as you entered.

Good place to take older children, but little ones may be a little bored

We were lucky with the weather. The butterfly house was small but some good photographs could be taken. The ant house was fascinating but incomplete. Had an enjoyable lunch. I did feel the walk a round the maze, some of the gardens were not well looked after and the 'arena' has still not been developed. Good experience for school kids I would imagine.
