“Early Evening Menu”
Reviewed 27 August 2013

Ate from the Early Evening set menu: Two Courses for £9.95 which is great value. Food was good with service to match.

Criticisms: My main did not come with any vegetables; just a filet of chicken in a tomato sauce; you are expected to order your own sides to accompany your main course which obviously increases the size of the bill. Also, 12.5% tip is automatically added to the bill which is not always fair. In this instance, I paid it as the service had been good.

Lovely Al Fresco patio at the back of the restaurant.

“Excellent food and service”
Reviewed 26 August 2013 via mobile

We ate here to try the set menu and we were not disappointed. The food was served in a timely fashion and with a smile. The choice of food was good for a set menu and the portion sizes were ample. The branded jug of tap water was a nice touch. The atmosphere is excellent and this restaurant is highly popular with locals and tourists alike. I would have no hesitation in recommending this establishment to friends and family.

“great for a "light" dining experience”
Reviewed 19 August 2013

Arrived at this buzzing diner on Saturday night for a light dinner and was very impressed overall . The service was excellent and food quality was very good for a "chain" establishment . The lighting was a little dim and had trouble reading the menu but that was due to the table location ...others may be better lit . Had the anchovie flatbread to start which was a little dry and not quite as fresh as it could be , with the moules and frites for main course which were very good . Deserts were also good . This is a fast expanding chain as they have a proven recipe for success. Another good example of a niche restaurant from the "Richard Caring" group of companies .

“Cōte is Cōte ... and that's no bad thing.”
Reviewed 18 August 2013

I am not sure how much longer this ever expanding chain will manage to maintain it's impressive standards but so far it shows no sign of waining. I've been to a few of the sites and this one in St Albans is ... pretty much like all the others. The good news is, all the others are dependably good.

That said, I don't ever get that excited about French brasserie menus. They are solid, predictable and nicely varied, but I'm a spice lover and as such don't tend to crave Cote food. But when we go there (and it is relatively often) we know we will get good food at a good price, delivered consistently with very friendly and attentive service.

On this particular visit I took my Mum, her husband and my nephew and it was perfect for us. Relatively buzzy but not cramped, the food was good (the pork belly was particularly complimented as were the ever dependable fish goujons with skinny fries.

Cote never particularly wows me, but it also never lets me down.

“Pleasant Dining Experience”
Reviewed 17 August 2013

Cote has established itself as a minor chain and the food on the menu at the St.Albans branch is very much what you would expect if you have ever visited the chain. The branch in St. Albans is always very busy and hasn't disappointed. Pleasant outside dining area, makes for a good setting for summer evening meal. Good but not exceptional.
