“Clean and compact”

We stayed whilst visiting friends locally. The room we had was in the top of one of the buildings and felt cramped, made worse by the sloping ceilings - however, one person's cosy is another's cramped! As we were so close to the roof, the room felt a bit chilly - I'm not sure I would like to stay there in a really cold spell.
The room was clean and tidy with all facilities in good repair.
Breakfast was generally good and served in a pleasant and airy conservatory area.

Room Tip: Avoid the 2nd floor rooms if you can

We had eaten at the Ardmore on several occasions and have always been impressed with the food and service. We have just had another fantastic evening and overnight stay here. We invited a party of 40 friends to join us for the evening and they all agreed the food was lovely, staff were all friendly and very helpful and the music and dancing contributed to a most enjoyable time. Our room was clean and comfortable, breakfast excellent and we will be returning next month.

This is a privately run hotel in lovely Edwardian buildings. Other reviewers found the decor dated but it fits the character of the building. The room was lovely, very clean, overlooks the garden and exactly what was required.
Staff very friendly and helpful. The food was recommended but I found it disappointing. Nothing actually wrong but excellent lamb cutlets spoiled by a gloopy sauce. The starter fritto misto was ok but that's all.
I didn't have the residents special price menu which I should have done, so found it a little expensive for what it was. Cooked breakfast was excellent but tinned fruit not good!

Stayed this weekend with a group of friends for a 50th birthday. We were made very welcome by the staff who were lovely. We didn't have dinner in the restaurant but will try that the next time we visit (yes there will be a next time). The breakfast was very nice. Overall a great weekend. Will see you all again Ardmore House.

This is a reasonable hotel, and as previous reviewers have noted, is well located for walking into St Albans. We spent one night here.

We were allocated a large and comfortable room in the annex building. The two buildings are connected, so you never have go outside to get from one to another. One thing to note is that the connecting route has lots of steps and stairs, and might be a problem for anyone with mobility difficulties.

Breakfast was OK. The fruit was tinned, but the cooked English plate was excellent. One more point to note is that breakfast may not be included if you book through booking dot com, but it's cheaper by £3 to add it to the booking on line.

Overall I felt that the £97 we paid for b&b for two, including breakfast, was rather over the top. This hotel is a wedding venue, and I imagine offers a decent deal in that market, but in my opininion was not good value for the transit trade.

Room Tip: 101 was a large and comfortable room in the annex.

A great location within walking distance from the train station and the city centre. The room was clean and pleasant but rather small! The bathroom was particularly cramped but was also as clean and functional as the bedroom. I found the breakfast very good - a reasonable selection of buffet items but also a very good cooked English breakfast were on offer. We used this hotel as a base while we explored St Albans and popped into London on a recent trip to the UK (only 20 minutes away from Kings Cross). It is very convenient for both of these. For the me, the only real bother with the hotel was the slight sound of trains passing by, however, my husband said that he barely heard them! This was not loud enough to keep me awake so it was only a very minor inconvenience. I would stay there again if I were visiting the area.

We loved St Albans, but this hotel had a faint whiff of Basil Fawlty. We arrived to find that we couldn't park because the car park entrance was blocked by a tanker unblocking the drains; breakfast was a complete shambles, and our room was very small.

That's the bad side, but actually there is much to admire about Ardmore house- the building itself could be lovely and the location is also brilliant. If they could sort out the service it would be a very good hotel...
