“Loud, not great service or food”
Reviewed 6 April 2014

We had a really poor meal at Prezzo's St. Albans. My two daughters were given a choice of a smaller children's meal or a larger one, neither were explained to us and the waiter was really rude and offish. We went for the smaller one for my 5 year old (which says for children up to 5 years old), and granted it was only £3.50 but when her pasta came it was served on a side plate and there were approximately 9 pieces of Penne Pasta, perhaps 10 max. On complaining they did bring back a slightly larger 'side plate' of pasta. However what was originally served to us wouldn't have filled up a 1 year old let alone a 5 year old. My other daughters portion of pesto pasta off the larger menu was bigger but there was so much pesto on it she couldn't eat it!

I ordered a goats cheese salad as a main course, as it was £10 we were surprised that there were two tiny pieces of french bread topped with a thin layer of goats cheese. The rest was all mostly lettuce with a few caramalised onions and bits of flat bread. Really really poor. The other dishes weren't great either though better than mine.

The meal was topped off by a group of 30 women coming in and sitting near us, who weren't there when we came in. So about half an hour into our meal they all came in and were extremely loud, we couldn't hear ourselves think and the atmosphere wasn't appropriate for a 5 and 8 year old. The waiting staff were all so busy with this group we were then ignored, one did apologise for ignoring us and said they were too busy with that group. I think they should have warned us at the very least, we didn't stay for dessert or coffee and to say we won't be going back is an understatement!

“Great food”

This restaurant is excellent. Try the spaghetti with chilli and prawns- superb. And the desserts are so good. The staff are always welcoming and friendly even with young children. Well worth a visit.

“Terrible service”
Reviewed 23 February 2014

Why is it that Eastern European waitresses are the bain of my life. Could not get a seat or an idea of when one was available. I felt like we were being sterotyped as I have a beard.
Just awful, go elsewhere.

“Saturday Lunch”
Reviewed 2 February 2014

Booked a table for 8 adults and three children for a family meal. Staff were very helpful and pleasant, for example, putting a bunch of flowers my wife was carrying in water whilst we ordered and ate. The 3 young children ordered a 'child special' meal that was garlic bread, followed by spaghetti Bolognese and ice cream. The eight adults ordered seven different meals. The wait for our main course was a little long but it was all delivered together. Everyone said their meal was very tasty. At the end, our waitress must have overheard us saying it was my wife's birthday as she appeared with a 'birthday present' of profiterolls and cheesecake for her.

“Good food? We'll never know.”
Reviewed 9 January 2014

First of all I should say that we've been to a Prezzo before (Bristol) and had pleasant service and a good meal with no problems. On a Saturday evening in December we were in St Albans and had no booking for dinner so we tried several restaurants for a table for 2. Everywhere was fully booked, which was fair enough, as they all explained politely and all were genuinely busy and full. After trying several we came upon a Prezzo, went inside and asked for a table (it was almost completely empty, in total contrast to everywhere else we'd tried, and this was just after 8pm). Another party walked in behind us, so to the waitress who approached us we probably looked like a larger party.. We asked if they were fully booked, to which she replied 'no, how many people? When we said just 2 her expression changed, and she said no, sorry, nothing available. We were surprised but we said 'how about later on? We can come back'. She again said no, nothing. My partner said that he thought she had said they weren't fully booked?, as we gazed around at the 90% empty restaurant in astonishment, to which rhe reply was - 'We prefer bigger parties of people on a Saturday, and we are sure more people will be coming later. We can't really do a table for just 2'. We left, walked across the road to Thai Square, who were busy but found us a table and we had a lovely meal.We left Thai Square at 9:45 and out of curiosity crossed the road to look take a look at Prezzo and all those large parties of people who were definitely coming later. And yes, Prezzo was still almost empty. We were stunned, and won't ever be visiting a Prezzo again.
