We were pleased. We had premier room ('hornbeam') upstairs overlooking garden. The hallways and public areas might be a bit tired but the room was well appointed, very clean and very comfortable. Excellent grounds and location. Excellent staff. Breakfast okay. Price seemed reasonable for what you get. We would return.

The hotel is located in a great spot overlooking the park and a fabulous lake. This is where we have had several dinners in their restaurant. It has an extensive menu and a really good wine list. The bar is also a nice place to hang out before or after dinner and their terrace provides great views.

Room Tip: Take one of the main rooms in the hotel itself for a sumptuous bed, or for a more modern approach, t...

Lovely period hotel, beautifully furnished and finished, very quiet. We went for 2 nights to celebrate my 50th birthday, and chose the hotel as it was within easy reach of Leavesden Studios for the Harry Potter tour (which, as an aside, was excellent!). The room was a little small, but big enough, and the facilities were good. Furnishing was of an excellent standard. The shower was really good and modern. The bed was a Hypnos bed, who have the Royal Charter and supply the Queen! I can honestly say we have never slept in such a comfortable bed, and we came straight home and ordered one!
The breakfast was good, apart from the full English on the first morning which was meagre and dried out, but it was swiftly replaced with a more acceptable one, and the breakfast the following morning was fine. Afternoon tea in the lounge was lovely, very refined, and dinner was beautiful.
Service was excellent - I would especially like to thank the waitress on breakfasts, who was friendly, helpful and simply lovely!
I would definitely stay in this hotel again. It helped make my birthday really special.

Thank you for your review and it was a pleasure looking after you for such a special occasion. It is great news that you were able to experience all of the different aspects of St Michaels Manor and thank you for your comments on the rooms, the beds are indeed fit for a queen!

It was also nice to hear that you enjoyed the Harry Potter tour, one of Hertfordshire's many fantastic attractions that make the area the perfect location for a quick trip away in the UK.

We look forward to welcoming you back again in the future, please remember that we don't just do special occasions, we make every occasion special!

St Michael's Manor hotel is full of charm, has exquisite grounds and you feel like you have escaped to somewhere surrounded by history and decadence - surprising when you are actually still in the city centre. You feel very special from the minute you walk through the door. The rooms are very stylish and luxurious and I honestly did not want to leave. Breakfast was exquisite sitting on the garden suite terrace and afternnon tea looked very tempting too! St Michael's Manor is a must visit place if you come to St Albans or have friends/relatives visiting - it has the wow factor. G & T on the jetty at 4pm overlooking the lake...what more do you need?

Room Tip: The Garden Suites - escape to a little sanctuary in the beautiful grounds

Thanks to Laura, Richard, Sean and all the staff at St Michael's Manor for helping to make our Son and Daughter-in-law's wedding so special. Nothing was too much trouble for everyone at the hotel. Whatever we needed was available, either in advance or on the spot. Everything happened smoothly and inconspicuously. We spent 2 nights there, the rooms are recently refurbished to a high standard, with the decor being a traditional and modern mix, and with extremely comfortable beds! The food was excellent and well presented. The grounds are beautiful and maintained to a very high standard, making it a fabulous place for photographs.
