“A revisit to a wonderful B&B in St Albans”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 June 2013

I revisited this delightful B&B last weekend and stayed in the wonderful "White Room", with lovely views overlooking the Cathedral and the quaint shopping street with its many antique and curio shops as well as trendy fashion boutiques.

My room was very spacious and comfortable, delightfully furnished, with large ensuite bathroom. My breakfast was excellent and presented in friendly manner by the charming owners.

I thoroughly recommend a stay here - super location and a delightful ambience.

Room Tip: White room was lovely - spacious and with large ensuite

I stayed for two nights in May and really enjoyed it. The owners were very friendy, the room was spacious and overlooking St. Albans Cathedral. A good quality breakfast is served and there is also a pantry at the guests' disposal. Everything is within walking distance - the city centre, the nice park, and even the train station. I would definitely stay here again.

Gorgeous house, spotlessly clean, friendly owners. We stayed in the Green Suite, which was beautiful and had its own sitting room and a large bathroom. The traditional English breakfast was first class and set us up nicely for the day. I would stay again and I recommend it to anyone.

We had a delightful two night stay here to begin our time in England. The owners were very friendly and helped us find our way around the town. This B&B is across the street from St. Albans Cathedral and within walking distance to the downtown. The oldest pub in England (Ye Olde Fighting Cocks) is also within walking distance, as are several other pubs and restaurants.

Our room was a corner room on the first floor (second floor here in the USA), and had a view of the town and the cathedral. Street noise wasn't a problem, even with the boys school across the street. Nights were quiet. We would have preferred if there was less furniture in the room, since it was hard to lay out our two suitcases and not trip over them.

You won't have to worry about a big lunch. The English breakfast served is very good, and you're free to have cereal and fruit along with it! We never left the Tankerfield House hungry. If you're a decaf drinker, we'd advise bringing your own, since Tankerfield House didn't have a good decaf option available.

All in all, we'd stay again!!

Location
Next to the cathedral and St Albans school. A few minutes walk to the city centre and 15 minutes to Roman St Albans. Also close to the main railway station although taxi recommended if carrying more than a very small bag.
Accessibility
No ground floor rooms. Short flight of stairs to first floor
The B&B
Important to discuss arrival time & parking with the owner in advance. As a B&B there is no formal reception or 24 hour service
Rooms/bathrooms are huge and extremely comfortable with a lot of character as you'd expect in a Georgian building not modernised to extinction. A few curious furnishing choices but these do not detract from room comfort
Breakfast part buffet part cooked to order . Beautifully prepared but a little let down by quality of some items.
Noise
Traffic minimal, inevitable returning revellers at night, nothing too disruptive.
An excellent value city centre alternative to a chain hotel

Stayed on business, what a lovely B&B! Beautiful room, spotlessly clean, excellent location for the town centre. Needed to leave early in the morning and was delighted to be presented with a "pack up" - a bacon sandwich, some fruit and a croissant! Would definitely stay here again!

We were due to attend a wedding at Manor House Hotel and wanted to stay nearby but not on site. This is a lovely B&B, well located for St Albans town centre and a 15 min walk from the train station. Rooms are spacious, clean and beautifully decorated. The owners are very friendly and the breakfast is lovely. Would highly recommend.

If you are driving and looking to park on site there isn't much space so worth checking if parking is available during the times you are looking to stay.
