Owner description: Verulamium Park is a public park in the City of St Albans, Hertfordshire. Along with being a wide open area for recreational purposes, the park includes all that is left of a Roman settlement from which the park takes it's name. The large amount of history on view in the park has resulted in a museum dedicated to the Historic Roman heritage upon which St Albans has been built. The park also includes a long list of facilities including; Tennis courts, sand courts, football and cricket pitches, An athletics track and field facility, a golf course, childrens play area, outdoor childrens Splash Park, a large leisure facility called westminster lodge Leisure Centre which contains a gym and indoor swimming pool, a cafe, a large lake fed by the River Ver, plenty of provision for picnics and family activities and what is thought to be the oldest and one of the most famous public houses in England called The Fighting Cocks. Overlooking the entire area is the St Albans Abbey, a large cathedral dating back to 1077AD. The park is an epicentre of greenery and wildlife and it is a hub of social and recreational activity that the people of St Albans can be extremely proud of.

“Great place on a nice day”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 July 2014 via mobile

The park is lovely to walk around with a few little places to stop and get a drink or ice cream. It was nice for us as a couple to just walk and sit down. It's not an attraction in itself, for us it was just somewhere to kill a couple of hours on a nice day. Beautiful though.

“great place to walk”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 July 2014

Large areas of grounds and waterways to roam around the Cathedral. Parts of old Roman walls visible floor mosaic can also be visited.Lots of water birds and ducks to be seen and check out fish in some parts of the waterways. Great place to wander with children.
Only draw back would be lack of toilet facilities at the other end of the park but there are facilities at the musuem.

“Wow!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 July 2014 via mobile

On my own, I managed to spend two hours in here, very heartbreaking leaving. Not heavy and heaving with people, lovely view fom the top of the hill, water birds are fun to watch this time of year. Water full of duck, geese, moor hen, coots and swans, many with youngsters. I wish I had time to look at the mosaic, I would've stayed but the mosaic entrance was shut when I got around to visit that area of the park. I think another trip coming the same time next year. Wouldn't mind going into the museum too.

“wasnt great”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 July 2014

an average with no much to offer, could have had a better landscape. It was a nice place to sit and relax after walking around the city. i saw alot of families enjoying themselves which added to the character of the place but a fountain or two would have made it look more beautiful
