This is a great way to spend an hour or two learning how the old signal box at st.albans worked. The team of enthusiasts have done a great job restoring this building and turning into a mini museum, showing how this box would have operated when in use. The volunteers are very knowledgeable and on open days have working demonstrations of how the old semaphore mechanical signalling systems worked. There are a few working signals outside as well as lots of photos and information.
Great work!

Thank mezzas

I did the 'tour' during an open house weekend. It took all of half an hour, but it was a terrifically engaging and interesting half and hour and highly recommended if you find yourself at a loose end. You do not need to be a railway geek to appreciate story the enthusiasts who run the place have to tell.

Very few open to the public thus the St Alban's one is worth a visit ....once!!! There are VERY enthusiast members of the Signal Box volunteers ready and able to talk at length about the box and its workings
