“Very interesting”
Reviewed 18 February 2014

This is a wonderful museum to visit and incredibly interesting. Really well set out and the information provided is very good. Went during half term which made hearing some of the audio information difficult due to the children that were visiting but this is only a small gripe.

“Bad Day?”
Reviewed 18 February 2014

As have many reviewers, we went to this museum as our granddaughter is " doing the Romans" at school. Over all it was a positive experience as the exhibits were very good with additional things for the children to do. However the two people on reception / shop were very miserable. When we asked the way to the toilets we got a monosyllabic "There". Our granddaughter bought a few things. There was no eye contact or smile for her, just the price given. Perhaps the two assistants were having a bad day- but just a little interaction would not come amiss.

“Worth a visit”
Reviewed 15 February 2014

Nice small museum on the edge of St Albans.
Recommend a visit but if the weather is good then the car park gets busy with people visiting the park.

“Roman Museum”
Reviewed 9 February 2014

We visited the Verulamium Museum as our 8 year old is studying the Romans at school. It is a great place to spend an hour or more and is entertaining for both adults and children. There are mosaics to build, board games and arches to build as well as dressing up as Romans. The history of how St Albans grew and the impact of the Romans is shown as well as the many artefacts that were discovered.
A short walk across the park is a building that is free to enter. It covers an original mosaic floor from a Roman House and shows the stoke hole which fed the hot air under the floor - the hypercaust.
We paid £10.80 for a family ticket, which we considered good value.

“Great museum!”
Reviewed 7 February 2014

Our whole family found this a good museum to spend a bit over an hour in. In common with other reviewers, one of our reasons for visiting was that our seven year old son had recently been learning about the Romans at school. The museum is good from a child's perspective because it has several things to entertain them. There is a chance for children and adults to dress up as Romans. We played Roman board games. Our son really enjoyed making his own mosaics, and there was also the chance to do brass rubbing and do two different types of treasure hunt quizzes as you walked around. The museum has a gift shop with a good range of souvenirs. When you leave the main museum you then have a short walk to the preserved section of a Roman house, with its mosaic floor and under-floor heating system still in excellent condition given its age.

We paid about £9 for two adults and one child to get in, which was a fair price for a well organised museum. Local residents pay a discounted entrance fee rate. There is a pay and display car park adjacent to the museum where you can park up to 3 hours for £1.20 or all day for £3.20.

The museum is situated in a large beautiful well kept park with lots of play and sport activities, but we didn’t have the right weather on the day to make use of them. It’s a few minutes walk uphill to the Abbey and the town centre. So you can easily spend the day enjoying St. Albans.
