St Albans is a great destination for day-trippers and Verulamium should be a stop on the tour. Set in the beautiful park that was once the site of the Roman city, this little museum is a gem. Chock-full of artefacts and information including incredible mosaics, coffins and skeletons. The entry fee is reasonable and there is a great gift shop. Don't miss the mosaic floor and hypocaust in situ in the park.

A lovely museum, well spaced out with real Roman (rather than horrible multimedia) exhibits set in the same place as a Roman house with parts of the original floors and wall paintings. Absolutely fascinating, and only £2 entrance. Highly recommend.

A nice little museum with some great items. Not over the top. Starting to look very slightly dated now.

Having lived in St Albans for more than five years my wife and I thought it would be nice to learn a bit more about the city's fascinating Roman heritage. We popped by on a wintry February Saturday afternoon. In a addition to providing an informative historical overview on how the city grew, I was quite impressed with all the information on how the city traded with the rest of the Roman Empire and, more importantly, how the Verulamians lived their daily lives in terms of the food they ate, the houses in which they lived and how their provided for their families. It is all vividly illustrated with informative posters and drawings, as well as an impressive collection of items found by archeologists. For a week end afternoon with a difference I can certainly recommend the Verulamium Museum to locals and visitors alike.

This is a real gem of a museum. The displays are excellent and informative and there is plenty to keep all ages entertained. Try and avoid going when there is a school trip if you can as the nature of the building makes it very noisy when filled with little ones.
