There is so much to see, and it's really well laid out and described! It really show-cases St Albans as a significant Roman centre.

This museum is on the edge of Verulamium Park and is the museum of the Roman Town. It has a very large collection of Roman artifacts and several mosaics. For children there is a dressing up area. You can spend hours in here, or less than an hour.
Better still if you are a resident of St Albans you can get in for free, so you can come back again and again and spend time looking at all the items in the many cabinets and drawers.
Whether you pay to get in or a resident taking up your free entry, this is a must see.

This museum is definitely worth visiting if you're nearby, or have an interest in Roman history! There's a vast collection of Roman artefacts, not just in glass cabinets but drawers-upon-drawers full, and although not all of them are labelled clearly, they are still fascinating to pore over for an hour or two. The genuine mosaics and wall paintings are very impressive, I would recommend people go just to see those as they are so unique and special, even if nothing else is of interest. We thought it cheap to get in considering the amount to see. Also, we witnessed part of a talk by a Roman soldier, which seemed informative and good fun.

St Albans is a great destination for day-trippers and Verulamium should be a stop on the tour. Set in the beautiful park that was once the site of the Roman city, this little museum is a gem. Chock-full of artefacts and information including incredible mosaics, coffins and skeletons. The entry fee is reasonable and there is a great gift shop. Don't miss the mosaic floor and hypocaust in situ in the park.
