We have just stayed one night here. The hotel is lovely, rooms are great and spa while not the best we have visited is adequate. Our dinner in the restaurant however was rather disappointing. The restaurant had our reservation time wrong, even though we had called and emailed to check the details prior to arrival and checked again on arrival at the hotel. The amuse bouche was a cold tomato soup containing far too much raw onion which immediately put our pallets in jeopardy. The starters were quite pleasant. My husband had a lamb dish for main course which included a lamb cutlet. It was tiny, and very overlooked, so we sent it back to the kitchen. They then sent out two cutlets, both of which were so undercooked they were inedible. The waiting staff were horrified and thankfully took the dish off our bill, but it completely put us off the meal and we left without having dessert (which we never do!).
Breakfast the next morning was certainly varied however the cooked breakfast buffet was not being kept hot enough. We heard other customers complaining about the food too.
It is a real shame that the food is letting this lovely hotel down, and as food lovers, we would not return.

Sopwell house has a lovely atmosphere and a very sophisticated vibe. When we first arrived we took the opportunity to taste some of the cocktails at the bar and they were really delicious (and very expensive but, we were expecting that).

We then progressed to the restaurant and ordered what we hoped would be a beautiful meal. The food itself was mediocre and really not worth what we were paying. There was nothing wrong with the meal but it wasn't anything to write home about either.

Save your money and go somewhere else!

having visited not visited Sopwell House for many years we decided to book it for our anniversary dinner. The service was really good; unfortunately the food was dreadful. My starter was marinated salmon with a raspberry sauce, yuk. I ordered a fillet steak medium rare, it turned up very well cooked , about 2 inches by one inch in size and was like chewing rubber. The jacket potato was stone cold. Of course it was sent back to the kitchen. Meanwhile my husband had finished his very very average over cooked sea bass. It was just about edible when it came back; potato had been microwaved and was still cold. It was very expensive for rubbish cooking. Dessert was lovely and the waiter and staff were absolutely charming
We were offered free desserts and coffee. Quite frankly would rather have had better food

i came to eat here with a very negative opinion after reading some posts about this restaurant.but decided to give it a go and i was not let down and my opinion was changed and i shall return.the service was good and the wine was great although there was not much knowledge clearly known by my waiter.as he had trouble recommending a suitable wine to go with my food which was a little disappointing and only the real bad thing about this night was that. the starter was like my title elegant and interesting.the pigeon which i had to start was very delicate and had lots of elements but did not seem to be over complicated by so many ingredients on the plate.each complimenting each other.to follow for my main course i had another what can only be described as a breath of fresh air as so many chefs and restaurants try to do so many unusual things to food without pulling it off.but the chicken with rhubarb was fantastic it sounded very strange so i thought i would give it a go.and was pleasantly surprised by how well it all married together.from flavors to textures.as there was purple potatoes, black quinoa, rhubarb.which after reading this i am sure you will agree in saying it all sounds like a blumenthal dish but it was not and was excellent.the whole experience was great.and would definitely recommend what can only be described as a little gem.
