Fleuchary House No. 29
Ranked #1 of 15 St Albans B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 27 October 2013 via mobile

Faultless. Amazing. All the components of a B&B are done with exceptional flair, care and attention. Our room was beautifully decorated and immaculately cleaned. It felt as if we were the first to stay in it. The bed was very comfortable, the bedding luxurious, the bathroom fitted with a very elaborate multidirectional shower (verbal instructions on its use were provided when we arrived), lovely toiletries and the tea making facilities were particularly elegant (a pretty matching tea set with a selection of teas and coffees including decaf and herbal). The room also had the little extras that are sometimes required (iron/ironing board, shoe cleaning kit, sewing kit etc) tucked away out of sight.
The location is great for access to St Albans on foot. The road outside can be noisy (our room was at the front of the house) but the vehicle traffic settled down overnight. We were however briefly woken by people noisily walking home after a Saturday night in the pub. Perhaps we'll request a room towards the rear of the house when we visit again. Although we'd happily stay in the same room again. This is one of the best B&Bs we've ever stayed in.

We recently stayed four nights at No 29 while visiting our daughter and family and agree with all the previous reviews. This is a comfortable, well-appointed b&b, run by a delightful lady, Linda, who has developed and furnished the house beautifully and included so many thoughtful extras. Breakfast was wonderful, with plenty of treats to choose from and interesting people to talk to. Why stay in an impersonal hotel when you could stay here? We thoroughly recommend No 29!

I stayed for 3 nights and was travelling alone on business. The accommodation cannot be faulted and the owner is very welcoming and accommodating. It is very close to the town centre and a short walk to a number of restaurants.

The décor is elegant, and the rooms are furnished to a very high standard, with luxury bed linen and toiletries. The breakfast is delicious - I can particularly recommend the fresh fruit salad!

I would certainly return again.

We live in Dorset but I needed to stay in St. Albans after recovering from a serious operation. My daughter located and spoke to Linda the owner who was extremely kind and helpful. On arrival she said she had put us in the room she felt was best for us. This was beautiful and comfortable with a very large dressing room / bathroom which was perfect. Nothing was too much trouble but at all times not intrusive. We did have a peek at the other bedrooms which all have they're own character with great furnishings. The parts of the house we saw are a mix of Scottish and Art Deco and very spacious. The breakfast is amazing the best we've experienced at a BB let alone hotels. We will definitely stay whenever we visit our daughter in St. Albans. I defy anyone to be disappointed staying at 29.

Room Tip: Scottish room is at the back with large bathroom. But gold room more space to move around is at the...

As part of a house move we needed to move into some kind of hotel accommodation in St Albans for a month. It was with some trepidation that we set about looking for somewhere suitable for such a long period. However I can quite honestly say that Fleuchary House was perfect and we were genuinely sorry to leave at the end of the month. Linda’s hospitality is second to none, her breakfast is wonderful and the room exceeded all our expectations. I chose to have the bowl of fruit most mornings which was a real treat. But the cooked breakfast was scrummy too if you wanted that. The B&B was comfortable, quiet and had everything you could possibly want in it, far more than in a standard hotel.

Linda went out of her way to make our stay comfortable and easy and her attention to detail is exceptional. She even made special arrangements so that my husband, who left for work early each day, could have breakfast even though it was well before the normal service time.

So if you are looking for a place in St Albans (or London for that matter, it’s only 5 mins walk to the station) in my opinion there is simply nowhere else to stay. A fantastic 5* service and accommodation, for a non 5* price with a lovely warm, friendly welcome thrown in. What more could you want! We’d certainly stay there again and have recommended it whole heartedly to all our friends.

Room Tip: They are all lovely.

Fabulous, modern, quality interior with appreciation for the age of the building. No. 29 is the only B&B I have been happy to stay at, so good in fact that I would have been more than happy to spend all of our stay in this luxurious home. Hostess Linda was extremely friendly and helpful without being obtrusive, we mentioned our visits to the cathedrals on our trip and whilst having a delicious breakfast a very soothing cathedral choir cd was played. These little details are why I am so eager to recommend No.29. Spotlessly clean, on - site parking, attention to detail, superb breakfast and location. So good in fact that I would only stay here when in the area. Usually I never return to same place visited, but this is the exception!

I have just stayed the weekend in Fleuchary House.........and I didn't want to leave !!! There was nothing that could have improved our stay, except being longer ! I stayed in the yellow twin room ( Decorated beautifully) and every luxury was provided, from really comfortable beds, great quality linen, lovely toiletries and a choice of tea, coffee, chocolates and biscuits in the room. The house is perfect, with large rooms, fantastic breakfast ( i had fresh exotic fruit salad and scrambled eggs and toast) 10 minutes walk to the centre of town or the station and every little extra provided. The room had tv, alarm clock, iron, hair dryer etc etc nothing absent. Linda was so welcoming and it was fun meeting the other guests at breakfast on the communal table. It was a quiet road and you felt that nothing was too much trouble.......this really was as good as the pictures show and the reviews say, I would definitely recommend it and stay again. Thank you Linda.

Room Tip: All good .......choose any and you won't be dissapointed
