“Deeson’s should be No.1 in Canterbury – it’s a proper treat”
Reviewed 28 August 2010

We booked to eat at Deeson’s last Sunday after a recommendation (and 10% discount) as guests from the (almost adjacent) Canterbury Cathedral Lodge – and thoroughly enjoyed it. The food is inspired and delicious right from the ‘free’ doorstep size fresh bread platter through the starters, mains and the melt in the mouth treacle tart with cinnamon ice cream for dessert or the locally produced cheese board. The staff are extremely friendly and immediately make you feel comfortable and are also happy to share their knowledge of Cath Deeson’s artwork throughout the restaurant. The tables are huge in size so you don’t feel cramped and the size of the cloth napkins show how excellent Deeson’s is; however, on the down side (as another reviewer mentioned) is the acoustics we were a party of two and seated close to a party of four who sounded like they were talking through megaphones which made it almost impossible for us to hear each other until they were eating; nevertheless, as long as this party of four do not go on the night you do you will have a wonderful flavoursome meal and I am sure Deeson’s will attain the No.1 restaurant in Canterbury accolade on Tripadvisor before long.

“Really quite extraordinarily good food at...”
Reviewed 27 August 2010

Really quite extraordinarily good food at Deeson's; quality U haven't much experienced outside London. Long may it continue. The pigeon was inspired, and the lamb excellent. I often find in these places that they hire a plethora of very good looking girls who are sadly completely incapable of providing anything approaching good service. Not the case here; as attractive as the staff are (!) they are clearly fundamentally committed to top-notch service. My only complaint was that the wine wasn't as cold as my companion and I might have liked. Otherwise, first class.

“Nice, but not worth a second visit”
Reviewed 24 August 2010

At first glance Deeson's appeared to be a great choice for dinner for 4 adults on an evening out in Canterbury. Unfortunately a limited menu and poor acoustics let this otherwise pleasant restaurant down. One member of our party was vegetarian and was faced with no options for a starter and a rather uninspired main course option which turned out to be rather greasy puff pastry toped with salad leaves. The meatier dishes were tasty and better prepared which suggests that whoever created the menu did not really have an understanding of vegetarian cuisine. The atmosphere in Deeson's was very nice with a buzzy vibe for an 'older' crowd. However, the echo effect of poor acoustics meant diners (us included) had to shout rather than talk across the tables. Some wall art may solve this but trust me, it is deeply unpleasant for over an hour when you are a small party.

Overall it's a nice place but with some serious faults that will certainly prevent a return visit.

“Wonderful food, lovely service - a real treat”
Reviewed 16 August 2010

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Deeson's, apart from trying to decide what to eat! Everything sounded delicious ~ and what we eventually chose was excellent - in parts, outstanding. Tiny criticisms ~ the bread offered didn't live up to the excellence of the rest of the food, we had a slightly longer wait between the starter and the main course than we would have liked, and there only seemed to be English wine available by the glass - I'm not a fan! - but the very friendly and extremely professional staff and the truly excellent food more than made up for these minor glitches. Would definitely go back any time.

“Very impressed”
Reviewed 13 August 2010

Canterbury has been crying out for a restaurant like this for years. Went here for dinner a few weeks ago now but was just hugely impressed - very good value, fantastic service and staff, very very organised despite being really busy. A lovely bustling little spot, with a really interesting menu.
