The Falstaff in Canterbury
Ranked #13 of 16 Hotels in Canterbury
Reviewed 26 November 2012

Have just retured from a few days in Canterbury and stayed in this hotel. Could not fault it. Staff were efficient, courteous and friendly. Rooms were warm clean and comfortable with all the necessary equipment.- trouser press iron and ironing board coffee making facilities etc. The public arears were comfortable and clean and the bar service efficent and friendly. My only problem if you could call it that was that we were in rooms separate from the main building and as the weather was very wet we had to walk in the rain to get to breakfast or the bar. But all in all I would recomment this hotel to anyone and will be staying there again when in the area.

Room Tip: Choose a room in the main building if you can

We stayed here for a night in November. The hotel is very old but warm, comfortable and convenient. The staff were efficient, friendly and professional. I would have no hesitations in highly recommending this hotel as our stay wad perfect.

We had a great two days in this hotel. The staff were extremely courteous and polite and most obliging. The room was clean and comfortable, excellent facilities, comfortable bar area and very conveniently situated for all the attractions. The breakfast was ample and set you up for the day, it was very hot with cereals, toast, fruit etc, We certainly enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it to friends and family and we will certainly stay again if in the locale.

Room Tip: We had a room in the annexe which was very quiet, away from the road.

I have seen some very unfavourable reviews on The Falstaff Hotel, canterbury and I was wondering what I had booked up. It was a little difficult to find the car park and would suggest you phone ahead to get directions as google, etc only takes you to the hotel and the car park is behind on another road. All the staff were so polite and very helpful could not find one that was not and they would do anything for you if they could.

The hotel is very old and very nice looking inside and for a 3 star hotel I was very impressed. we were in room 4 which is right at the top of the building but still had character. The floors were very squeeky but this building was built in the 1400 so it is expected although the receptionist said they are trying to screw some of the flooring down, big job. The bathroom was very nice and the shower was very powerful. They had tea and coffee and biscuits in the room with a hairdryer, iron and ironing board also a trouser press. We did have a slight issue with the noise of a water tank filling up or something similar but it only happened when people were having a shower at about 6pm not during the sleeping time.

They do not do food for dinner but breakfast was really nice, cereals, fruit, cooked breakfast, toast, etc. the only fault I found was the hash brownies were not crisp but that was a minor thing, tea and coffee plentiful.

They have a bar and a lounge you could spend the evening in if you wanted.

The only downside was the carpet going up to the first flight of stairs is beginning to wear but that was the only thing.

I hope people who are going soon will find this of interest and a bit more positive than some of the reviews.

Room Tip: It was quite good to be at the top of the hotel although the floor squeeked you had no one above mak...

This hotel is great. It is 600 year old, so has creaky floorboards- but that is fun. If you prefer to stay in a bland, corporate hotel then don't stay here.
Don't be put off by the rather "precious" reviews.

It's quite a cool place.

We stayed for two nights early November in room 28. The room was spacious and full of character and charm , yes the floorboards creaked but the building is 600 years old, we would have been disappointing if they did'nt. The staff were wonderfully helpful. The room was clean ,bed comfy and tea and coffee supplies plentiful. The location is perfect just outside the gate. The breakfast was delicious, buffet style one morning as the Hotel was busy, this worked extremely well. All in all we had a most enjoyable stay and hope to return soon. Ne hesitation in recommending.

Room Tip: We enjoyed being at the front able to watch the world go by. May get noisy at busier times so maybe...

What a pleasant hotel. Being one used to modern fixtures and fittings, it was refreshing to really strip back the travel experience and go to a place with so much charm and history. Situated just outside of Canterbury high street you are in perfect distance to everything you could possibly need.

The room was clean and well stocked with tea and coffee making facilities and complimentary bathroom products. The breakfast was tasty and plentiful. The service was impossible to fault. Friendly staff at reception had all the information you needed about Canterbury, and the lovely young man at the bar who was also serving us breakfast the following morning was a delight; he really couldn't do enough to keep us smiling. The Falstaff really do go the extra mile to make you feel special: one of the many advantages of a small independent hotel, to whom, you aren't just another number in their vast chain.

Should I ever be heading to Canterbury again, the Falstaff will be my first choice.

Room Tip: If you're worried about noise ask for a room not facing the road.
