Hi

We just stayed at the Falstaff - First the positive . Most of the staff were really pleasant and genuine in their approach , although the welcome wasnt particularly smiling ....

The hotel is a great location to visit the town and with a nice car park (important for us as we were part of a classic car tour)

The room was meant to be a superior room - well yes it did have a four poster bed - that was all it had though .Light bulbs blown and the decor was very tired . The very worst was the bed - Now I like a firm bed - even orthopaedic but for goodness sake ... our limbs went numb due its harshness ...VERY disappointing - even low cost hotels have comfy beds these days

The carpets were threadbare in a lot of areas in the hotel

Trying to get served at the bar was a long process so we used the pub nearby instead

The breakfast was superb with everything on offer

So overall I am afraid too many negatives for the £450 we paid - they need to stop relying on people being ripped off as tourists and start thinking what is on offer for the money that is being charged - Frankly its probably worth half the amount we paid

Stayed for one night. Lovely welcome. Very helpful staff.
Only down side - slightly tired and very dusty. Restaurant not open in evening. Informed only two staff on duty all night although happy to order in takeaway food for guests !

We visited the Falstaff for a one night stay so we could have a day out in Whitstable and explore Canterbury without having to rush home. Arrived before our check-in time, but parked in the hotel car park and had a walk around the city. The hotel is a lovely old building and full of character. Like some other users we noticed a few signs of wear & tear, but nothing to spoil our enjoyment. We had a lovely comfortable room on the ground floor, but away from the front of the building, so we weren't troubled by any noise.
Staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was very good. Location is perfect for exploring Canterbury - right by the West Gate and 10 minutes walk from the cathedral, with lots of pubs and restaurants nearby.
We would definitely recommend this hotel and plan to visit again.

Booked the hotel on the recommendation of one of our group of 9 who had met on a trip to Canada 5 years ago. He obtained a special rate of our party. I managed to get the single room for £65 per night with breakfast. Loved the old world feel of the place which was in keeping with Canterbury. Yes the carpet was a bit worn but it was not important. We had clean towels everyday. Bed changed every two days. Room over looking the courtyard. Not too noisy although it was on the main street into town. Room and bathroom clean. Staff very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was plentiful with good choice. Had a good pot of tea in the bar on two occasions. Well placed for walking into town and for the railway station. Will definitely use when next in Canterbury.

Room Tip: Ask for a room not on the street to avoid too much noise.

Great location 5 mins walk from station & most attractions. Lovely breakfast. Quaint. Clean. Friendly staff. But.. We had rooms on front & in tap rooms annexe which incurred a lot of street noise until the early hours. Take earplugs! Need to spend some money re carpeting main areas, threadbare and patched. But overall, good choice.
