The Falstaff in Canterbury

An overnight stop on the way to the Channel Tunnel and couldn't be better! We were upgraded to the four poster bedroom - the oldest in the hotel apparently and really characterful and comfortable at the front of the building.
The staff were really friendly and helpful, and breakfast as ever was excellent - just right to set us up for a channel crossing and a long day's journey through France.
The Falstaff is perfectly located for exploring Canterbury - right next to the Westgate and then a short stroll into town with all the shops and amenities of this wonderful city. There are so many good restaurants to choose from within a short distance of the hotel plus great pubs too.
With easy parking as a real bonus this is one of our favourite places to stay when visiting East Kent or on the way to the Continent - very highly recommended.

We stayed at a the Falstaff Hotel in Canterbury from the 22nd June for 5 nights. We were very comfortable there. The staff were friendly and helpful, the breakfasts were excellent and the whole hotel was spotlessly clean. Our room was on the small size but had everything we needed. The bed was one of the most comfortable we'd ever slept in. The hotel had lots of character and was a most interesting building. I would recommend The Falstaff to anyone wanting a break in the beautiful city of Canterbury.

I had wanted a room at the back (quieter) but was upgraded to the Sir John Falstaff suite. Although this is on the street, at street level, curtains and blinds gave privacy when needed and it wasn't as noisy as I'd feared.

The room itself is lovely - very large, old beams and furniture, four-poster bed.

Breakfast (buffet) was good, catering to a wide selection of tastes from a typical full English to continental.

Reception staff were friendly and helpful.

The location - as everyone notes - is great; a 5 minute walk from the train station (west, not east!) and 5 minutes to the West Gate and the historic centre.

Stayed at falstaff many times and will keep returning as long as they continue to provide value for money
Staff pleasant rooms fine breakfast ok, not a fan of buffet breakfast as the eggs always seem to be dried out or powdery, but at the price for bed and breakfast totally acceptable

Room Tip: I prefer the character of the main building the annexe is fine but lacking in character

Stayed three nights as part of an annual weekend away with 7 other couples. A great location for the sightseeing areas in Canterbury - only a few minutes walk from the cathedral. We had a room in the original hotel building and as our room overlooked the central courtyard it was quite noisy - these old places don't have double glazing! and as the weather was warm and our room had no AC, we had to keep the window open. The room was small and although it was comfortable enough it could have done with some re-decoration. The same goes for the bathroom - the tiling was looking a bit 'tired' and the taps/shower could do with some upgrading. The free WiFi worked well and the breakfast was very good - although the dining room is too small for the number of people that the hotel can accommodate - so some people had to eat in the bar. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel has good secure parking. I would certainly recommend the Falstaff as a place to stay in Canterbury.

Room Tip: I would recommend going for one of the newer rooms in the blocks away from the main building. There...

The hotel is located at 20min walking from the bus station (need to walk across all the touristic street ).
The hotel is an old house built about 600 years ago, therefore the rooms are old fashioned, rustic, small, with wood floor (if you want to experience what was to live in an old era then this hotel is perfect for that).
The breakfast was quite good: eggs, sausage, fruits, tea, coffee and celery.
I stayed for one night. The check in is at 3:00pm; we arrived at 10am and left the luggage at the hotel in order to met the city in the meantime.
In general it was fine.
