The Falstaff in Canterbury

I have just returned from spending two nights in this delightful hotel. The location is very good, literally two minutes away from the impressive looking Westgate, and close to the town centre, cathedral and other popular attractions. At first i was disappointed at being roomed in the newer Woodmill part of the hotel as opposed to the older part of the inn, however i soon made myself extremely comfortable in the twin room i shared with a family member. It must be said that our room was in the attic and could be quite difficult to access for the less abled so i would check this when booking. The beds were the most comfortable beds i have slept in, and the room spacious, airy and clean. The bathroom/shower was not the best but perfectly adequate and clean. The hotel only provides breakfast but there are plenty of good restaurants within close proximity. The breakfast was lovely and consisted of a served full English and fruit/cereal/yoghurt/croissant on a buffet basis. The staff were very polite and helpful and seemed very eager to please. I would definately return to this hotel.
I would like to take this opportunity to recommend a restaurant called Marlowes...absolutely beautiful.

We spent a mid-week break at The Falstaff and it was an excellent choice. The staff on reception were very welcoming, even providing a very useful map of the city. We had a room in the Old Woodshed which is a converted building at the rear and the room was large, clean and comfortable with an en suite bathroom. Breakfast was first class and plentiful. The bar was not used much during our stay although it is nice and cosy and there are no evening meals. This does not matter at all as the hotel is quite central and close to some first class restaurants and pubs. There is even a Wetherspoons pub less than a minute away so something for everyone.

We stayed at The Falstaff for one night at the end of November. We took the train from London and arrived late morning at the hotel. We just wanted to leave our bags so we could visit the cathedral. The very nice lady at the desk checked and our room was ready.
We booked a family room that was in an annex near the car park. The room was clean, comfortable and quiet. Breakfast the next morning was crowded but good. We had a very pleasant experience at The Falstaff.

Shabby. Dirty, has the feel of a place that's about to go under. Very very poor. Bathroom hadn't been cleaned and was disgusting .

I was not happy with the first room I was offered, for the following reasons = It was small dirty and in my opinion a waste of money, it was noisy from other guests. The second room was no better. I would not reccommend any body taking a room in the old joinery annex, the room I had was 056, It was at the top of a steep stair case and part of the old roof void, No normal person can stand upright in certain parts of the room. The room was in a dead end situation, as an ex Fire Officer I was unhappy with the means of escape, although I am told it is compliant to the fire legislation. After I complained, I was offered a further room, this was no improvement on the first, in fact there was no internal lock on the door. I was in the hotel a total of twenty minutes before leaving, I was offered no refund or any form of reinbursement, I moved out the Holiday Inn Express which was 100% improvement. One further point, the TVs in both these rooms were very poor quality. In my opinion I would not reccomend this hotel to anybody.

Decided to stay here for a night at the last minute with my partner after attending an event at the University.
Full of character and quite clean/tidy. Check in staff were great - very efficient and quick. We were given a room in the out-building at the back of the hotel by the car park entrance. This did not seem to suffer form road noise and was away from the main hotel (a bonus since that seemed to be full of wedding guests). Room itself was clean, bed was soft but comfy.
The walk through the main streets to the cathedral was not too bad, though might be a little far for an older, less mobile couple. Breakfast the next morning was a buffet affair with plenty of choice and waitresses refilling when emptied.
Overall, a decent stay, though a bit more than I usually like to spend for a quick overnight getaway

Arrived and parked in hotel car park......check-in was efficient.....room was quaint but on the small side....television impossible to view as it was too low down.....bathroom quite dated and compact.....bed very comfy..... plenty of tea and coffee....floors very creaky but then it is an old building....maids decided to hoover and clean the room next to us at 8pm sunday morning!?.............didn't eat at the hotel......... ate at a cuban/mexican type restaurant across the road from the hotel and would recommend this as a place to eat....lovely food and friendly service...........when we arrived back at the hotel for a drink at 11pm we managed to purchase one drink before the guy slammed the shutters at 11.05pm and walked off without asking anyone if they needed one last drink before he closed! No one was impressed with this at all.........breakfast was awful, waited nearly 20mins to get what we ordered and when it finally arrived it was cold and fairly congealed..(was it just left on the side till someone could be bothered to take it out? )Check-out was equally unimpressive, we were met with a totally dis-interested receptionist who didn't even bother to ask if we enjoyed our stay or if we had any issues, says it all really, won't be going back........
