I love the Dolphin, it's a beautiful pub where I don't mind spending the extra money. HOWEVER, the manager/owner needs a serious course on hospitality. The last few times I have been here, he has been so surly or downright rude. He came to our table to clear it and made some joke about us being messy. Hello? You are not doing us a favour, we are customers and as such should not be made to feel like we are intruding. It really isn't acceptable behaviour and this is certainly not the only decent pub in Canterbury. Buck your ideas up Mister, or find another job that does not require dealing with people. I appreciate you love your garden and want it kept tidy, but do so in a polite manner. Look at the tripadvisor photograph of 'Rules For The Garden' pretty much sums up his manner. One does not want to be made to feel like a naughty school kid when spending hard earned cash!

What could be better than sitting in a pub garden in a warm May evening enjoying a real ale or pint of cider. We had the steaks which were lean & swimming in a stilton sauce. Although it was very busy when we visited, the staff coped admirably & we enjoyed a lovely, relaxing evening.

Our second visit - just a good as the first. Discrete but attentive staff, always very polite and excellent service.

Décor & general ambience great, very comfortable and relaxed - amazingly helpful & involved landlord - even gave me one of the recipes.

Portions are generous and quality good - this is simple-ish fare, done extremely well, and lots of it - we can't manage three courses (and I'm a trencherman) - two is more than enough (though the desserts look wonderful too).

Garden very nice and sheltered - good that they establish rules about behaviour in there - basically, be considerate of everyone else or kindly go and eat in the park!

We'll be going back. Highly recommended all round!

This pub is a little gem.
Lovely staff, great quirky decor and comfy, homely feel to it.
the home cooked food is superb and the portions are always vast.
A favourite amongst friends and work colleagues alike.

We've been at this pub just once when visiting the city, it's a lovely setting with loads of quirky and playful objects in it, busy all the time. Food is of really hight quality, nicely presented and good flavours probably the best meal we have ever head in a gastro-pub. Nice staff too!
Highly recommended!
