Central location a block or two from the Cathedral and right in the middle of the shopping district. There are many restaurants and pubs nearby, and you can easily join in on a walking tour if you like. It was very busy during the day but seemed quiet at night, even on a Friday. I found the service very nice, and the room modern with most of the convenieces a North American traveller expects. We liked the soft beds and squishy pillows, and didn't notice much noise from the lift or passersby that I've read in some of the other reviews. We didn't try the wine bar, restaurant or pub. The continental breakfast in the dining room was included in the price of the room.

My husband and I stayed here for 1 night as we had been invited to a wedding nearby.
The hotel was quite charming but I agree with others that it is overpriced. We've stayed in nicer hotels for less than what we paid per night here.
We luckily got a car space at the Abode after arriving at the same time someone was leaving. I think there was roughly about 12 spaces!
We arrived way too early to check in so our bags were stored while we had a quick champagne in their bar.
We checked in about midnight and rather oddly had to pay for our room then and there.
Our room was clean and comfortable. The bed was huge!
The shower was a huge letdown, it literally had no power and dribbled out of the shower head. If we had stayed longer I would have called housekeeping.
We thought the small hamper of complimentary goodies was a nice touch until we opened the crunchy praline wonder bar to find it was already half eaten!!
The location of the hotel is its biggest selling point.

My wife and I stayed at this Hotel with our son and his wife on the weekend of 7th June. We had room 203 and my son a room at the front.
The protrusion in the corner of our room was the elevator which we found reverberated into the room every time it reached the second floor. This carried on from 11pm to 2am early morning. Beside the noisy elevator there was a restaurant down the side of the Hotel which spewed noisy customers out at midnight. Our son found his room noisy also at the front of the Hotel. As we found out that the Hotel was quiet we stayed in the same room again on Sunday night. Not much better. The restaurant is small and the Breakfast menu very basic and we wonder why they bother serving food here.. On complaining to the receptionist on our departure we asked to speak to the General Manager and was told he was not available. When asked which were the quieter rooms we were told the 'Inner Ones' but a lot of people did not want them as they had no windows in the rooms.
What surprised us when arriving home we found on reviews of this Hotel a Swiss lady had reported the exact same problem the month before in May about room 203.
I ask therefore what was the General Manager doing to let the room again in these circumstances because I would like to hear his review after sleeping in the room one night. Or maybe he does not stop at the Hotel he is responsible for. This room is fit for a storeroom only. If you seek parking facilities for a car don't bother here as they have 6 parking spaces only.

Room Tip: Unless you want an inner room without a window don't bother staying here.

Thank you for your review, I am sorry you did not enjoy your stay.

Room 203 is situated near the lift my team would have been more than happy to move your room if we were aware this was causing you a disturbance.

I can’t agree with you comments relating to the restaurant it can accommodate 75 guests which is a good size to accommodate 72 bedrooms within the hotel. We do offer a quality breakfast ranging from continental which includes fresh juice, cereal ,fresh fruit, pastries cheese, bread and ham. As well as a full cooked breakfast or if you prefer, Hythe smoked haddock and poached eggs, eggs Benedict or smoked salmon and scrambled eggs.

I can also confirm that all our bedrooms have windows.

Car parking is limited with 12 spaces available.

Regards

I was beginning to despair of British Hotels but ABode has restored my faith - this was a classy establishment, decked out with style and charm, excellent service from people who knew what they were doing, efficient reception, excellent food and bar - a real cut above the usual - and no tired, worn, grubby-looking bits that you find in so many Brit hotels. A real treat. We loved the breakfast and had a great afternoon tea in the Champagne Bar. The location could not have been better and within walking distance of everywhere, and stumbling home distance at the end of the evening.

The room, by the way, was like a little suite (standard room price) - really nicely done out, with a wonderfully comfortable bed.

The only down sides as far as we were concerned were the lack of parking at the hotel - there are a 'very limited' number of spaces (although the hotel did set us up with a voucher for one of the many car parks in Canterbury but it was a bit of a walk and a minor hassle) and the price - but then you get what you pay for. I always travel on a budget but this hotel was really worth that bit extra. Will certainly return next time I am in Canterbury.

We booked 4 rooms for a family occasion. When I did this the staff over the phone were very helpful and I was fairly confident all was arranged. I did from the start ask that all rooms were charged to me (and again when there) but this seemed to cause confusion and they wouldn't let one of our group check in (we were at a ceremony at the time) without me being there to sign for her. Minor but she had to hang around for a couple of hours on her own.
As a celebration whilst there we had a couple of bottles of champagne at the hotel bar - the guy who served us was a right misery and seemed to enjoy looking down his nose at us. It really takes a lot to annoy me but that guy sure succeeded in that.
I didn't see the other rooms, ours was a 'most desirable' and whilst ok was fairly dusty in places and decor wise was pretty tired. Costing at the time was £175 for the room for the night, breakfast not included. To my mind way over priced. We have stayed in other hotels in Canterbury (booked out when we tried) that to my mind were both better service and value. To be honest I don't think its the grand place it seems to think it is.

Thank you for your review, I am sorry that you found a member of the team annoying, we do strive to deliver friendly and attentive service I will discuss your feedback with the bar team.

Our accommodation prices are based on demand, this week is graduation week in the city and one of the busiest weeks of the entire year, we therefore sell the accommodation at full price. We do sell rooms from £99 during quieter periods.

Best regards

Was given this stay as a birthday gift (a very generous one). The bed was comfortable and the room, 104, extremely spacious. The staff were delightful but the bar tender was obviously new and rather slow....not what you need in a busy bar on a Saturday evening. For a visit to Canterbury this gives a perfect central base.

The hotel has nice rooms OK accepted. But read on. We arrived on Sunday night looking forward to relax over nice dinner - restaurant closed. One of the websites suggested with a photo that this hotel had a roof terrace, that is partly why we chose it but we were told it wasn't this hotel but another in the chain. So we went out for dinner and thought we would come back to enjoy our desert and coffee over a TV film. Again yet more disappointment ! When we rang down to order we were told that we couldn't have either dessert or coffee with room service.
We both wanted a bath but there was only one bath towel !
My partner wanted to wash his hair but no conditioner provided only shampoo.
So if you are looking for those wonderful comforts most four star hotels provide - this not the place !

Thank you for your review. Our Michael Caines restaurant does close on a Sunday night however we do have a 2nd restaurant available in the Old Brewery Tavern which is open on a Sunday evening. The hotel does have a terrace which is part of our main suite as pictured on the website, regrettably we do not have a terrace as part of the public areas within the hotel.

Desserts are not part of the room service menu I am sorry to read the disappointment this caused to you and your partner.

We do offer bespoke toiletries from Arran Aromatics, we offer shampoo and body wash, hand and nail cream and body lotion, I will discuss the possibility of supplying conditioner with our supplier.

Regards
