We decided to stay at this hotel as we were visiting the Michael Caines restaurant attached. The room was really shabby, with patchy plaster and battered furniture. For £130 I would expect much better quality. This did NOT include breakfast either.

I stayed again, 3rd time in less than a year......wife booked a surprise stay with the help of Adriana for valentines day .(this lady is amazing. She arranged / organised our wedding at the abode ). The room was their normal high standard, well presented clear and tidy. The little hand written welcome card from the general manager was a nice touch. ....visit to the champagne bar for pre dinner cocktails.....We had the tastimg menu, food was well present, waiters and waitress had x-lent knowledge of each dish served, explaining in details about each dish. Breakfast normal high standard I come to expect from Abode. Thank you Abode again for a very good stay, but please look at the shower,......Adriana a big thank you..........for the first time in 20 years my wife out done me on valentines day with the help of you so THANK YOU

Room Tip: To date never had a bad room

I had the dubious pleasure of spending one night in this hotel in early February 2014. I was met with a reasonably pleasant night manager, who presented me the key to a noisy, stuffy room with mold around the window seal and broken A/C unit ('maintenance' issues). A little electric heater was provided as a replacement to the broken A/C but was quite ineffective. The next day, i had to make alternative arrangements for a shower due to the grubbiness of the tub in my room. i returned at 1.10pm to find that the front desk manager, Danni, had already charged my guarantee credit card and checked me out, despite my specific instructions that I wanted to use a different credit card to settle the bill upon check out. She condescendingly reminded my that was late for check-out (despite the hotel being mostly empty) and that it was Abode company policy to charge the guests card in their absence at precisely 12pm if they do not present themselves for checkout. Whether this is truly Abode's policy or simply something this employee enjoys doing to irritate her guests, I will never know. Either way, it leaves a very poor impression of customer service at the end of what was a fairly mediocre stay to begin with. If considering the Abode for your stay in Canterbury, I suggest you try the excellent Cathedral Lodge instead. Or a park bench - it'll probably be cleaner, and is sure to give you less attitude.

Room Tip: Another hotel.

Thank you for your review, I am sorry the room was not to your liking. I have checked the room today and the bathroom is spotlessly clean. We hope to have the comfort heating repaired by next week, there has been a long delay in sourcing the circuit boards for the system.

We do ask our guests to check out by 12pm. As the hotel was fully booked that night and we guarantee our rooms to be available from 2pm we had no alternative to charge your card as we did not know when you would return to the hotel. There is normally an additional charge for late departure which Danni did not apply. If an alternative method of payment had been given and if we had been made aware of when you were returning to the hotel then we would not have charged the card presented on check in.

If I can be of any further assistance please call me on 01227 766266

Regards
Declan

My husband and I stayed here for one night as a post Christmas indulgence! I booked a dinner, bed and breakfast deal in a 'desirable' room. The hotel is right in the heart of Canterbury. Parking is limited to just 12 spaces - fortunately we were able to get a spot and felt it was reasonably priced at £6 for 24 hours. The entrance is extremely impressive and we found all the staff to be friendly and welcoming. Having paid a little more for the 'desirable' room - we were rather disappointed with the lack of desirability ! Room was big enough but felt really empty - apart from the bed and a tv and DVD mounted on the wall, the only furniture was a built in desk, desk chair and built in cupboard. Usually hotel rooms feel very crammed with furniture, here it was the other way around - ooh how I longed for a cosy armchair. We loved the champagne bar, which as well as champagne had a wide range of exotic cocktails too. Dinner in the Michael Caines restaurant was delicious; our overall impression was that in the main part of the restaurant it was lively, but we were tucked away in a quiet, some might say intimate corner, which lacked atmosphere. Breakfast was first rate.

My boyfriend and I stayed for one night at the end of January, for an early anniversary surprise.

The hotel entrance is very impressive and the Champagne Bar looks lovely (very well stocked, nicely busy when we arrived at around 5pm).. Check in was very easy and we were very impressed with our Desirable room – spacious, nicely decorated, spotlessly clean and with all the things you’d expect (hair dryer, iron, lovely huge fluffy towels) and some extras that you didn’t (nice shower gel, lotions, etc).

We ate in the Michael Caines restaurant for dinner on the Saturday night which was great – nice food although not a huge amount of choice on the a la carte menu we'd choosen, great wine list, not too busy so service was very attentive and nothing was too much trouble.
We really enjoyed the breakfast the next day – Eggs Benedicte for me and Smoked Salmon & Scrambled Eggs for the boyf.

The hotel is in a great location slap bag in the centre of the town, just 5 minute’s walk from the Cathedral. Definitely would love to stay again, thanks for making our anniversary special with the balloon and the champagne.

The location of the hotel is fantastic - in the centre of town. Great bar - ambience / service - good place to meet and relax.

The challenge for me with this hotel is the quality of room - we had a comfort room (the cheapest !) but I would have expected a bath room of a reasonable size. It was exceptionally small - towel rail blocking access to the toilet !?! One desk chair in the room (not great for a couple sharing) and a TV about 3 feet off the ground.

Breakfast was good - however the waiting staff kept (3 times) offering us other guests cooked breakfasts. When we received our breakfast other dinners actually clapped !

Overall - Would have expected better. To cap it off when asked at checkout how was the stay - the response to the above comments was - it was a comfort room. This was not the Abode experience I expected after previous stays in Exeter and Glasgow.

Booked a Superior Room which turned out to be a superior bathroom with a room that only managed a desk chair for an armchair. Bed was very comfortable. Had two nights, first morning only enough hot water for a single shower, my wife had to do without. (problem acknowledged and solved for the following morning). Subsequently the TV lost its picture. Both problems reported and apologies proferred by polite staff, but no compensation offered. Heating system unresponsive to climate, so whole hotel so uncomfortably hot that we elected to eat out for breakfast and dinner, to cool down...in january! By final morning external temperature had dropped sufficiently to make it possible to take the hotel breakfast, which was pleasant. Staff were all courteous and helpful. Hotel very well located. Parking limited so if full can be 7mins walk away.

Room Tip: Given the size of the 'Superior room', I dread to think the size of the 'Comfort Rooms...
