We recently stayed at the Abode for a birthday treat over Easter weekend. Our arrival was good, we were helped by a helpful young man who carried up our bags and were met by a colourful gas balloon on the bed wishing a happy birthday - a lovely touch.
The room was a good size and smelt fresh and clean. The bathroom, although clearly fresh and clean had a strange layout. There were no shelves for personal belongings and the shower screen was fixed and close to the basin, so running the bath taps meant almost laying in the bath and would have been virtually impossible for somebody with limited mobility. Also the the bathroom door was exactly opposite the wardrobe door so it meant a bit of co ordination to avoid bumping into each other when getting ready to go out. The drinks tray was also located inside the wardrobe - we thought this a bit strange. The shelves in the wardrobe were very basic and it seemed a bit odd to have hot drinks being made over shelves that contained our clothes! The room we noted was nicely furnished but a little scruffy in places, i.e. paint was chipped on corners and there were a few scuff marks around the walls.
Overnight because we were in the front of the building we had a few disturbances from late night revellers and the windows appeared fixed so there was no opportunity to get any fresh air.
Staff although polite, friendly and helpful but seemed to slip up on a couple of things.. when we asked if we should have a phone in the room it was commented that we should and there appeared to be a vague memory that our one had a problem with it. So at that point it was replaced. Our request for a newspaper was met on the first morning but no note had been made of it so on the second morning nothing arrived. Our drinks tray was not topped up on one morning so when we tried to make a morning cuppa there was no milk available. Small things, but a bit niggly when the rooms are not cheap!! And can anybody explain why the regional TV was for the Midlands when we were in the South East (not very helpful for getting the weather forecast!)?!!
But the location of the hotel was great and there are loads of great cafes and restaurants around.
We would stay again, but at these rates, things should be a little bit smoother.
