It's the combination of location, friendly staff, great food and comfortable rooms that makes this a great place to stay. You're a valued guest and they get the detail right without being overbearing. I stay regularly and have never been disappointed.

Ideally situated near Cathedral, shops, 'eateries' & buskers. Staff pleasant & helpful. Lovely choice of Hotel dining, either Tavern or Cordon bleu. Room roomy, comfortable and clean. (Accessible rooms in some hotels can be in need of cleaning and redecoration)

Great location at the heart of Canterbury. Very limited onsite parking but we were lucky enough to get a space. All of the staff we encountered were polite, attentive and helpful. Plenty of good bars and restaurants close by.

The car park issue is a farce, we selected the hotel on the basis that it had an available car park but were not aware that it was limited parking (actually no available parking when we arrived) and if there was available space it would be at a cost of £6 per day. We were advised to park within a public car park a fair trot from the hotel. Having to walk back over cobbled streets with wheeled suitcases and shirts on hangers, we were less than happy upon arrival. The hotel room was very small and smelt of mildew. We asked reception if they could look at this for us expecting to be moved but to our dismay when we returned it was to the same room to an opened window and the air-con blasting cold air. The room had torn wallpaper and the curtain had a cigarette burn in. The decor condition is pretty shabby to be honest. We were woken up early on Sunday morning by a fire alarm with no apology given which we felt very poor - this could have been done when checking out, a few words cost nothing. Although the staff were friendly enough, for a hotel that is supposed to be one of the best in Canterbury we were sorely disappointed, it is not value for money and will not return.

Thank you for your review, we do offer to take our guests bags when they arrive prior to parking, as we would not want our guests to have to walk back to the hotel carrying luggage.

We should hopefully have a new car park in the next couple of weeks that can accommodate a further 30 cars on top of the 12 we already have.

Regrettably we could not move your room as the hotel was full that evening. I have investigated your comments relating to the smell and there was a leak below the bath causing the damp smell this has been fixed as well as the tear in the wallpaper. I do apologise for inconsistencies.

The reception team should have explained the reason for the false alarm on check out and of course apologised I am sorry this did not occur.

Regards

Declan

It's 7:30am Sunday morning and I'm writing this review now because I was woken by the fire alarm! I appreciate it can't be helped however it was a false alarm. The hotel room is nothing special, the backing paper on the walls had bubbled so cosmetically I wasn't impressed. Parking is a nightmare, £6 to park on site if they have space left otherwise £6 to park but the car park is 10 minute walk away! The food at the hotel was lovely, staff were polite and helpful. I wouldn't rush back, to be honest I've stayed at the Premier Inn a few months ago in Canterbury and value for money I prefer there.

Thank you for your review. I am sorry for the disturbance caused by the fire alarm activation. We should hopefully have a new car park with 30 spaces available for our guests in the next few weeks. Thank you for your kind comments relating to the team and the quality of the food.

I stayed here as part of a tour, and although some of my fellow travellers were disappointed with this hotel, I found it to be a perfectly adequate 4 star establishment. Very comfortable beds and thick fluffy towels although there isn't much shelf space in the bathroom. A nice selection of shower gel and shampoo replaced every day. The choice at breakfast was great, especially the berry compote and yoghurt followed by warm croissants and plunger coffee. The eggs Benedict, poached or fried were equally as delicious. If you only want something light or the excellent restaurant is full, you can repair to The Brewery casual restaurant down the lane and have the meal charged to your room. This hotel is right in the middle of the quaint part of Canterbury, close to the cathedral and other good restaurants.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that does not overlook the street, or else take your ear plugs and eye mask.

My partner and I could not fault this lovely hotel. On arrival the very polite and friendly receptionist escorted us personally to the car park at the rear of the hotel. Once parked we were offered a hand with our bags. Upon check in we made enquiries into having dinner at the hotel, unfortunately they were fully booked however we didn't book our room until the night before so we fully understood. The receptionist very kindly wrote a list of nearby sought after resturants and made telephone booking enquiries for us. Our room was adequate clean and fresh with all the facilities one needs. The bar and lounge had a great chilled out atmosphere. The bar staff seemed to enjoy their responsibilities of looking after their guests making fab cocktails too. The full English breakfast, continental etc was presented well and tasted great. Once again served with a smile from staff and the room had a relaxed atmosphere. We will definately be going back.
