Stayed here for only one night but it was a lovely hotel the bed was comfy and facilities great . Breakfast was good with a varied selection. Would have liked to stay longer and explore more but will return soon . Bathroom was spotless and shampoos etc were generous and of a high quality . Pillows are huge but comfy . Only slight complaint was walls are a bit thin as I could hear TV next door but to be fair it didn't really disturb me

The Champagne Bar has a limited small snack and pastry menu but the quality is fine and the service is quick. The prices are reasonable and the ambience is quaint but well and tastefully lit and designed.Surrounded by business personnel, friends, tourists and locals you are well served. The drinks menu cocktail style or beverage style has excellent choices. The staff are charming and always make you feel a teas. The formal restaurant is well placed but prices are high. It the experience is stylish and the starched service totes speak of excellent quality.

Positives first - the staff at the hotel are great and can not do enough to help. Very friendly and 24 hour reception, bar and room service very much appreciated. Abode is located on the high street, perfect for those looking to explore or for coming home after a night out. Room was also very clean, not a speck of dirt.

Negatives, and quite a big one is the poor night's sleep we had. This is an old building so we weren't expecting sound proof rooms but the room we were put it was next to the hotel elevator. Every time the doors opened, regardless of floor, it sounded like someone was moving heavy furniture by scraping it over the floor. This went on for most of the night so not much sleep going on. Mattresses were also very soft which although fine for us would not have been good for anyone with a bad back.

For the amount we paid we would rather stay at Cathedral Lodge where we have stayed in the past. If you do stay at Abode specifically ask for a room as far away from the lift as possible.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms ending in 05 (ie. 105 and 205) as this is next to a very noisy lift

It's hard to believe that the hotel I stayed in last night is the same as the one mentioned in all these reviews!! I agree that the hotel is very well situated, the bar and communal areas very nice, the bathroom clean and the staff friendly and helpful! If I was to review it on those things alone, I would give it a 4/5! However, the hotel lets itself down in one very important aspect - the beds!! The bed looked comfortable enough until I sat on the edge and immediately sunk down several inches. Lying on it was even worse - just like lying on a very squidgy marshmallow. I don't like hard beds but this bed went too far in the opposite direction. The nice man at Reception when I rang down, politely told me all the beds in the hotel were the same and did offer to put a board underneath it, but we decided to move the mattress on to the floor. It then became obvious what the real problem was - the bed base - which was very old and lumpy, and
alongside the oversoft mattress gave no support. So, in short, if you don't mind a very soft bed, you'll be fine. But if you have ever experienced back problems, avoid this hotel at all cost. This hotel could be fantastic if they spent some money on replacing the beds. Sorry, Abode, I'd have loved to have given you a better review but please take these comments on board. Your beds were the worst I have ever encountered in a hotel!

Stayed here several weeks ago for a weekend break and was very impressed. The location is great, right in the High St. The room was clean, and the ambience in the lounge bar is very nice.
The staff are very professional and give attention to detail.

Fantastic hotel in the centre of town. Very comfortable rooms, amazing breakfast. Staff very attentive. Lovely bar areas for relaxing before dinner. Very good value when purchased as special offer with bed breakfast and evening meal. Will definitely visit again.
