We loved this place - very old, little corridors, etc as others have noted. We rang up a bit desperate after trying a number of other places at the end of a long day of travelling and were offered one of two rooms - I was a little apprehensive before we arrived and wondered why they still had rooms available. When we arrived the really friendly and helpful young man at reception showed me the available rooms and we went for 'Joy' - clean bathroom and bedroom, both small, great comfy bed, and view right on to the Cathedral - it was indeed a joy lying in bed at night looking at the lit up cathedral and listening to the bells. The fellow at reception said we could have our breakfast in our room at no extra charge and we did this - the continental is included and it was huge - yoghurt, fruit salad, toast, croissants, cereals, jams, tea, coffee and juice. It is located above the Starbucks in one of the main squares in town but as we were facing the cathedral there was no noise - just those residents who live inside the cathedral grounds walking their dogs at night. The entrance to the Cathedral is next door. We loved this place and would definitely return - it felt romantic looking at the cathedral from bed and eating our breakfast looking out at it.

We stayed for 2nights over the weekend in an ensuite room called 'Joy'. It looked right into the cathedral gardens and was a gorgeous little getaway. The room and bathroom were extremely clean and we were very well looked after. The hotel is very old and charming with a family like feel to it with a very central location.

The location is awesome and its kind of fun to stay in the old places. Having said that, the floors are uneven, the corridor kind of makes you feel a little drunk and our entire room was sloping including the bed. Don't get me wrong a fun experience, but not my best nights sleep scooting up the bed every few hours. The view from the back is worth it all the cathedral is beautiful. No wi-Fi in the rooms but good access from the lobby.

Cathedral Gate is a wonderful hotel. The location is as central as you can get with great views of the magnificent Cathedral and the square. We loved the ancient higglety-pigglety corridors and floors. The room was clean and cosy, and continental breakfast was abundant- we had lovely fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal and fresh croissants. Most importantly, the staff were really welcoming and couldn't do enough to help us.

We stayed one night in July and loved it. The young man at reception was fantastic!! I loved the quirkiness of this place. Located right next to the Cathedral gate it could not be more convenient.
I loved being able to sit outside and gaze at the Cathedral while enjoying the lovely potted flowers. We were very pleasantly surprised at the lovely breakfast eaten while looking out at the lively square. This is not the Hilton but if you want a place very much in tune with the history of Canterbury and super convenient....this is it!! Would definitely go back.

Cathedral Gate couldn't have been a better choice for us- within a stone's throw of Canterbury Cathedral. The views of the Cathedral by day and by night--spectacular. The breakfast nook we found especially charming because it overlooked the town square. The breakfast itself -a wide selection- all very tastefully served. The staff- Deborah and Sabina -went out of their way to make our three night stay most enjoyable. Our double room, recently renovated, was comfortable, spacious, and immaculately clean. There's no doubt in our minds this charming hotel had everything we were looking for. Proximity to nearby restaurants and a city car park nearby was accessible and affordable. Kudos to Deborah and Sabina - an added plus to our stay.
