It all seems very idyllic having a room right in the centre and across from the square and right by the entrance to the
cathedral.

We walked from the public car park to the hotel. We were being served the receptionist but was rudely interrupted
by another patron. The receptionist was then going to serve him before finishing with us as we had to rush to put the car park ticket on.
If she had gone off we well may have had a fine !

The rooms were nice but we didn't have an en-suite bathroom. Also the room was sloped which at first was obviously charming but it impacted sleep !

The MAIN problem was sleep. Outside was loud all night long with people shouting drunk outside. WE literally had no sleep but low and behold in the morning when
double checking the draws we found ear plugs. This suggests that this must be a known issue so why were we not told the ear plugs were there !

Breakfast was nice but too long and drawn out. It would be far easier to have a the continental breakfast on a table rather than course by course which took an hour.

Overall, I was glad I paid less through late rooms if I paid the usual rate I would have been quite unhappy.

Staff was great, room good size and very clean. Very good bed. View of Cathedral out our window. Good breakfast. Reduced rate (pay) parking in town lot (5 min walk but could drive in to unload bags. No lift but staff carried our bags up (only two floors). Older building in heart of Old Town with nicely updated rooms. Everything (heat, water, etc) worked properly. Good value for this town.

Another great night at the Cathedral Gate. We enjoyed the central location and the newly modernised room. Very comfortable with all the right amenities. Staff went out of their way to help us find somewhere for dinner. Will definitely be back.

Thank you so much Debbie you made our one night stay wonderful! Your kindness taking our bags,in yourself and attention to our happiness especially to little Olivia was really appreciated! Your staff were lovely and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. To sit outside on your patio looking directly at the cathedral was an experience we will never forget. As promised I have told all my friends to experience your beautiful and charming hotel.

With warmest wishes from Andrea and Rachel. X

Fantastic ancient hotel, with rooms off rooms, little staircases leading to more rooms, winding hallways, just so much charm and character. We had a lovely room, and wandering around the hotel we had views of the Cathedral. This location is superb, being right next to said Cathedral, with beautiful night views. Very friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was good, although a little haphazard - we ended up pinching cutlery, jams etc from other tables, as the staff were busy and hadn't made up our table and were a little slow to serve us. Word of caution - lots of stairs, difficult if you have lots of luggage.

What a fantastic old hotel! Our room overlooked the grounds of Canterbury Cathedral, the view as you lie in bed is the main body of the Cathedral. Stuffed with old beams, wonky floors and charm, this is the place for you if you appreciate character. Topped off with nice staff and breakfast in bed delivered free of charge, this place was a delight to stay. Worth it if you can live with the shared toilets and shower room!.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the Cathedral, although the front is nice too.

As you mentioned in your review, some of our rooms have shared bathroom and toilet facilities, while others have en-suites. This allows us to offer accommodation to suit all budgets, giving those traveling on a budget, too, a chance to enjoy the fantastic location and cathedral views.

We hope to see you staying with us again when you're next in Canterbury.

Could not be more handy for touring Canturbury! What a treat to lie abed in a lovely fourposter and hear the cathedral chimes and birdsong.
The hotel is not for those with bad backs or knees as the terrain shifts (floors sag, ceilings dip, there's a short trip across the roof tops...) and there is no lift but the charm more than makes up for the surprises.
The staff was lovely and the breakfast delicious.
I recommend this to anyone looking for a delightful experience.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to write this lovely review - we're pleased to hear your stay with us was enjoyable.

The hotel certainly has some character: the wonky floors and exposed beams really make it what it is. However, at times such things as not having a lift can cause a bit of inconvenience, but our staff are always more than happy to give their helping hand with luggage.

We hope to see you again when you're next in Canterbury!

Iida
