Lovely Hotel, spotless room, pleasant staff but we felt breakfast was expensive, and the dining room too dark, NO windows.
Just a 10. mins: walk in to Town, ideal.
Parking was ok. will probably be better when the new building is finished.

Room Tip: The room was light and spotlessly clean, com'fy bed and piping hot water.

Dear guest,

Thank you for your review. My team and I are very pleased you enjoyed your stay.

The Fountain restuarant is internal, but it is tastefully decorated inkeeping with the traditional style of the hotel. We are however, looking forward to our new extension and refurbishment with the bedrooms.

Best regards

We had a great stay after enjoying a wedding celebration here. The staff were brilliant and could not do enough for us.Nothing was too much trouble and the food at the wedding was first class as was the waitress service. Our room was lovely with a large bathroom with plenty of hot water and towels. The air conditioning was a blessing as the evening was very warm.We stayed here on our own wedding night 43 years ago before Best Western took over so it was nice to take a trip down memory lane although we did`nt get up to the same things as that night. This hotel is a great location for looking around the city as it`s only a short walk or ideal for stopping off to get to the ports or channel tunnel.I will certainly stay here again if we have another night out in Canterbury.Well done to all the staff and thanks once again.

What a lovely hotel! We stayed as a family with a small'ish child in a suite situated in the old part of the building. Parking was my main concern after reading some reviews on here, however we parked straight away reception was friendly reassured me about the parking and informed us that there were to be two weddings during our stay. We went to our room on the first floor it was a good size, nice and clean, all that you would need and more. Our son was very happy with HIS room and how he didn't have to share!
The bathroom was a disappointment no shower just a small bath and a shower hose but I guess this was due to the age of the house and sloped ceilings, and was totally manageable.
We had booked a table for dinner at 7pm the restaurant was empty we were seated right in the middle between the kitchen door and the main door to the restaurant, it soon became apparent that we were sat in a through-fair staff moving between the two doors servicing the on-going wedding and the bar. It was very uncomfortable we asked to move which was a problem and had a lovely meal amazing food!! We all cleared our plates...the restaurant remained quiet staff to hovering and plates cleared quick but pudding took 45 minutes to come out wasn't to pleased an then realised all the buffet was going out to the wedding to assumed this was the delay.
Retired back to our room and slept like angels didn't hear a peep from the wedding.
Breakfast was great, hot and plenty of it, the 'older' male waiter was amazing our son loved him, he didn't seem scared or fazed to speak to him.
Went out for the day and came back to park with no problem at all, some flowers had be delivered from friends as it was my birthday reception staff had place these in our room which was a lovely little surprise.
All in all I loved to hotel and staff but felt a little neglected due to the function however I realise it takes priority. Hope to be back soon to try a deluxe room it sounded like these we're even better!

Dear guest,

Thank you for writing your review.

My team and I are very pleased you had a lovely time at the hotel, we do apologise for the matters you have commented on, I do hope that this did not inconvenience you. We are currently having a new function room and bar built, therefore service for weddings has to come via the restuarant, but I am pleased you were moved.

We look forward to welcoming you back to one of our deluxe rooms in the near future.

The wedding meal was truly amazing!! We stayed overnight, the rooms were very clean and airy! Have stayed here previously and have never been disappointed!!

We stayed overnight here to attend a nearby Jools Holland gig. I wish we had made it a whole weekend. Reception & housekeeping staff brilliant & very helpful. Room immaculate. Bags of parking in spite of a large wedding party (we never heard them at all). Bar & breakfast service excellent & breakfast was generous & hot. Far better than many so called 4* hotels in Kent, has everything going for it:- position within walking distance of Canterbury (where parking is eye wateringly expensive) & really punches well above its weght. We shall always use in future.

Room Tip: Go for top floor rooms.

Very friendly staff at the front desk. specially Jenifer. Waking distance from the historic Canterbury Excellent rooms and full breakfast available. We stayed here for our cruse from Dover.
Wifi went off partway during our visit, staff responded immediately and reported the issue.

I would like to come back.

We arrived later than anticipated at Abbots Barton, for an overnight stay prior to an early start the following morning en route to Dover. We were welcomed by a receptionist who, because of our lateness, had already thoughtfully made a dinner reservation for us as we had booked on a dinner, bed & breakfast basis.

At dinner, it was interesting to note that although there were only eleven tables occupied during our meal, there were a total of seven waiting staff serving. Due to their numbers, they seemed to spend most of the time 'hovering'. Not intrusive, but a bit off-putting. Would also have to add that our two 'medium-to-well done' steaks had to be sent back for further cooking due to being totally uncooked in the middle.

On retiring for the night, we were subjected to some loud Salsa music from the function room (this was on a Thursday, not a weekend, evening). On asking when this would stop, we were advised that the organisers had just been to pay, and that they should be stopping shortly, although no time could be confirmed. Bearing in mind we had an early start the following morning, we asked if the volume could be reduced - and the doors and windows of the function room were duly shut. This made a small difference, but did not last long as the doors and windows were again opened as the dancers warmed up again! We spoke to the night porter again about 10:45, and subsequently learned that he had again spoken to the group, but apparently without much success.

On checking out early the following morning, both the reception staff and night porter were extremely apologetic, and promised to bring the issue to the manager's attention. They commented that this (volume and lateness) had never happened before, but little comfort to us on this particular occasion.

All that said, would we visit agin? Yes, if our circumstances warranted it and we could get a guarantee of no noise (or at least be advised up front).

Dear guest,

Thank you for your review.

It is pleasing to hear that your arrival was warm and welcoming, the staff are particulary in tune to most of our guest requiremets and do think" outside the box", hence your dinner booking.

We are currently training restaurant staff and at times they do tend to be watching and learning, I will bring this to the restaurant manager's attention as it appears to be a little off putting for our guests, thank you for bringing this to my attention.

With regard to the rib eye steaks you ordered, Chef did check these, they were quite thick and although he passed them for service, he did on this occaision fall short of your request. I am aware he sent his aplogies, cooked them further for you and offered you a complimentory dessert.

Your deluxe room overlooks the function suite and yes, we do have a Salsa dance class every Thursday which is quite vibrant. However, I fully investigated the nosie issue as I have not received complaints before from guests in this room. My findings were they had the function room windows and doors open, so i have contacted the organisor to ensure this does not happen again as the room is fully air conditioned and they need to utilise this function and not disturb the hotel guests.

My aplogies and we do hope to see you in the future.

Kind regards

Christine
