It is an old building renovated and the rooms are just right and comfortable. The personel is very polite and helpful. I recomend it to tourists who wishe to visit Canterbury. It is central and close to all the places one wants to visit. There is a parking not very far from the hotel.

Room Tip: there is no swimming pool or gym. I just could not delete the dot in the circle. Anyway we had a r...

We have just returned from the "lodge" after arriving on Monday 22nd July 2013 we were shown to a room that I can only describe as substandard and a health and safety hazard. There were holes in the curtains and they were falling down, the towels had been washed but were stained and dirty and would have been unusable. There was a multi plug extension that was lying on the floor with several plugs in it supplying power to various items; including the fridge and the fan would this pass health and safety?? The bathroom was disgusting the size was inadequate, the corner of the shower was missing and was mouldy and the sink was so small you would not have been able to have a wash in it, also the toilet made an horrific noise on flushing. The whole room was in desperate need of repair. We could not stop in this horrendous room and spent the first day of our holiday looking for alternative accommodation. We told the lady on reception who said she was the manageress/cleaner our concerns and that we were not staying however despite this she insisted on charging us £75 for the room as this was part of the cancellation policy. I could understand been charged this if we hadn't turned up but we did arrive at the hotel as planned and it was the fact that the room that was given to us was substandard that we left. We have since complained and got no where...as a previous reviewer stated "if you can't get alternative accommodation sleep in the car"

We saw this place during our last visit to Canterbury and decided to stay here en route to our summer in the Pyrenees-Orientals.

The receptionist greeting was one of the most friendly we've ever received and Greyfriars clearly have an asset with this member of staff. Donna took our bags to our room while we found the car park a few minutes walk away.

Our twin room was clean and comfortable, with a pleasant view of the street and spires of Canterbury cathedral. The decoration is a little dated and a few repairs of the superficial damage would be beneficial.

My night's sleep was comfortable.

Breakfast was continental style, again a very friendly welcome by Donna.

I'd stay here again.

Greyfriars is very central so not surprisingly the rooms are not as quiet as a country retreat, there are a number of night clubs front and rear of building and therefore also associated noise. This of course is outweighed by the fact the staff were very friendly and helpful and tried to accommodate a number of our requests...and is one of the reason this hotel was chosen over others as reviews had said how helpful staff were. Downsides are noise, lack of parking and stairs to family room but this is minimal in comparison to the help offered by staff and making our stay as comfortable as possible.

Room Tip: family room ideal for those with 2 older children and a baby in own moses basket.

We were looking for a room for the night and discovered this well located B&B.
Unfortunately the rooms were extremely small and not very attractive, rather decaying. The bathroom was post stamp sized ...
Moreover, in England one should at least expect the possibility to have a full english breakfast and not just some cereals...

We came for one night, arrived early in the day and asked if we could just leave our bags to check in later, they already had the room ready for us and told us if we were hungry we could have some breakfast as there was still some left. Great service they were all really helpful and made you feel at home.
The room was cosy and free wifi and access to their DVDs was a plus. The continental breakfast was generous and lots of choice, who needs full English when you can have crumpets, pancakes, croissants, porridge, bread meat and cheese etc etc etc...
The location was perfect in the middle of the historic town, we didn't have any trouble with noise even though we were overlooking the street, but maybe because it was a Thursday not a weekend.
I would go back there or recommend to a friend for something simple, not too expensive and friendly.

Very helpful staff, and a great location for this B&B. Breakfast was basic (nothing cooked), but adequate. The room was a decent size, and a very unusual shape :-) The only think which let it down was the bathroom: washbasin about a quarter the size of a washing up bowl, with a strategically-placed shelf above it, which meant every time you bent down to wash your face, you banged your head !
