“Very good value for money and excellent service”
Reviewed 3 January 2014 via mobile

We booked this hotel the night before my daughter's graduation well in advance and managed to get a really good price for a room for 3 people. The welcome was excellent and we were in a large recently refurbished room for 3 adults. The hotel is in an excellent location for the city. We were very impressed with the service at breakfast the waitress was so friendly and accommodating when we didn't all want to eat the full breakfast. I would definitely stay here again if I ever return to visit this beautiful city and it was especially attractive if you can book in advance and get the very reasonable rates.

Stayed November 2013

Visited Canterbury for Christmas shopping. Hotel is in an excellent position for the shops and other attractions. Please be aware though that there is nowhere to leave luggage after checkout. As I was travelling by public transport this was a real problem. Hotel has a large car park so no problem if you are driving and can leave luggage in your car.

We have stayed in a few travelodges and this has got to be one of the better ones. We booked for one night in a family room and it was huge with a double bed and a single bed, for our daughter. Bathroom and room were both clean. We had breakfast the next morning which was really good value for money. We booked breakfast online and by doing this you save £1 per person :-) kids eat free. We arrived late so didnt venture into town but the hotel is in the centre of Canterbury so great location. Would certainly stay here again.

Highly recommend x

Walking distance to town centre with on site parking, which you have to pay for separately on arrival. Poor wifi reception in cafe bar. Don't stay in room 2 as you can hear the automatic reception door opening and closing each time someone enters or leaves the hotel.

Firstly the good, the Chaucer travelogue is in a great location just outside the city walls and a couple of minutes walk from the town centre. It is clean and tidy and the staff were helpful and friendly. They have recently upgraded their beds which a exceptionally comfortable. Now the not so good, don't try and battle with the pay by phone parking or the parking ticket machine you will just get frustrated. Just simply pay for your parking at reception much less stress (staff admitted the systems were rubbish). The bedroom was nice and warm but there was no heating in the bathroom which was like a fridge. Impossible to open the window, not really a problem in December but could get really stuffy in the summer. Finally don't bother booking breakfast it is not up to much, far cheaper walking down the road for 5 mins to Wetherspoons where you can get a cracking breakfast for half the price. In summary, in a Travel Lodge you get what you pay for, it is a budget chain but just wish it was not a budget that gave the impression that it had been cut to the bone.

We live nearby but decided to avoid the late Friday night taxi ride home - the price was the same to stay overnight here. Parking was easy at the Hotel, and our room (107) looked out over the front of the hotel. We slept soundly - no noise issues and the beds are truly comfortable. It has been extensively refurbished - basically now a travelodge inside the old shell. But staff (Marie) were so friendly (just a little like 'Miranda') and helpful! It is only a short walk into the city centre, all well lit and easily walked in heels (very important for us girls). The only down side is that none of the rooms have shelving for clothes. The rooms are big enough to accommodate suitcase racks with shelving below but only have a hanging space with a high level shelf above - and a small face mirror at the dressing table would make life easier too. We had breakfast - nothing special at all but pleasant after a night on the town! We would definitely return.

We arrived tired after a long drive in France to receive a warm and very helpful greeting from Jamie. All the staff very friendly. Fine room, great bed both in size and comfort. Room had everything we needed etc.

Room Tip: cannot get a better hotel to stay in great location and friendly staff
