Superbly situated for an historical tour of Canterbury. Easy to find by car, parking available and cheap (free for disabled) affordable, pleasant and hassle-free, with staff going out of their way to be helpful.

Canterbury was pretty comfortable, newly refurbished, but spoilt by not having continuous free wifi ( the so called 30 mins free is a joke because 30 mins is available only if you use it in one 30 min session)and having to pay to park my car. Its also not easy to find so make sure your sat nav knows you are looking for Ivy lane

My family of 2 adults, 2 teens, stayed here in June. The room was mostly clean, but for the filthy and moldy windowsills - need a thorough cleaning there. Otherwise bedding and bathrooms were fine. Beds were very comfortable, bathroom very large, main room a bit small with 4 beds but ok. No drawers nor desk, and only one small hanging area - they could add a few hooks here and there as an improvement. Also in the bathroom - just add some towel racks please! Why have one towel rack for 4 people? We did get some cigarette smoke drafted in our window because staff in the building next door took their smoke breaks just outside. We did complain and that seemed to help. There is no air conditioning. Adding ceiling fans would be a big plus.

Breakfast was acceptable, but nothing special. Plenty of choices and good value for money, especially with teenagers. We got a breakfast-included deal which made it worth the price. Coffee is Nescafe machine. If you eat more than a single pastry and coffee, this breakfast is worth the price.

Staff were very friendly and helpful; management can be proud of them. They were just as friendly to our kids, which is nice and not always a given, even when the kids are polite.

Wifi was truly awful. I had paid in advance for wifi but didn't realize it would only cover one person. Fortunately we found a way around that, but the service was painfully slow. Not worth paying extra for the wifi, just go up the road to Cafe Nero.

Main town was easy walking distance; you won't need a car from here. I would stay here again, only because it is good for budget travelers and convenient to the train station and town. But it's nothing special.

This, 'not your usual' Travelodge was originally The Chaucer Hotel and stands just outside the old city wall, 800yds from the Cathedral. Recently renovated by Travelodge, to their new corporate standard, our double room was roomy and the bed large and comfortable. The £5, 24 hour parking charge is very reasonable as you don't need to drive at all. Everything in Canterbury is just a very short walk away. Perfect! If you want to explore Canterbury; its History, Cathedral, Shops & Restaurants etc you can do it all from here. Highly Recommended as a great base from which to walk around the City.

Room Tip: We Stayed in Room 118 on the first floor. As this is a converted old Hotel room sizes and shapes do differ. Ask to move if you are unhappy with first choice.

To be fair to this Travelodge, it is in a prime position for exploring Canterbury. Teamed with reasonable onsite parking, you can't get much better value. The staff are mostly helpful and polite, too.
The rooms themselves seem clean and the beds are really comfy, however the rooms vary in size greatly. For instance, my friends were allocated on the first floor, where they found a small bedroom and living area but a huge bathroom. I was allocated the ground floor, which had a huge bedroom and living area but a tiny bathroom. So tiny in fact, that the door just skims the toilet on opening and closing.
The rooms are a bit of a sore spot. My friends (on the first floor) had a lovely stay with no disruption or disturbances. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for my stay. The room I stayed in was on the ground floor - right in reception. There are 2 rooms where the doors open straight out into reception and I recommend asking to be moved immediately if you're given either of these. The noise throughout the night was awful - the reception is tiled and the staircase to the first floor seemed to go over my room. I was kept awake most of the night (despite the super comfy bed) because of people walking up and down the stairs, banging the doors, dragging their suitcases across reception, staff talking in reception and in the bar etc. It probably wouldn't have been AS bad if I had a similar room layout as my friends, but as my bedroom was so big the noise echoed and was amplified. The other issue is that there isn't a lot of privacy or security on the ground floor, whereas the first floor rooms have to swipe their card in order to even get up the stairs. As a female in a room alone, I didn't feel this room was appropriate in any way.
I did make a complaint at reception, and the member of staff initially offered a free stay at another Travelodge. I declined this and was offered a full refund instead. This, I feel, is very good customer service and to be honest saved this review from being 1/5.
I would stay again given my friend's experience, however not on the ground floor!

Room Tip: Get a first-floor room. Refuse a ground floor room.
