Located in a tucked away neighborhood of Canterbury, barely a 15 minute walk to the city centre, this B&B is reminded me of home.

The rooms were comfortable and spacious enough, for a Victorian house, I could see the cathedral from my room. However beware of being stuck with a rather small bathroom! The tea and coffee making facilities were good, replenishes every day.

For breakfast, I could choose fron omlettes to a whole English breakfast (with a vegetarian option if you're into that). The staff and owner were kind and understanding. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this to anyone visiting the city.

This place is friendly and welcoming. I stayed for 2 nights in a single which was huge with 3 single beds. Nice bathroom with 2 doors between the bedroom and it which might be useful for 3 occupants. i would reccommend it.

Room Tip: The top floor tripple is large and very nice with a basin in the room as well as bath and shower attachment in the separate en suite, but large / heavy luggage is difficult with all the stairs

Stayed for one night. Very peaceful and conveniently located but the bedroom I stayed in was very dated and the bathroom and tea making facilities were poor. Staff helpful and friendly but the whole package just didn't feel value for money.

I’ve stayed in many British B&Bs, and they’re always an important part of the overall travel adventure. My latest trip to England included a visit to the cathedral town of Canterbury in the county of Kent. Clare Ellen Guest House was where we stayed for three full days, and we couldn’t have asked for better digs. Located just off of Wincheap Road, one of the main streets that branch out from the road ringing the city center, it is located within easy walking distance to the old part of the city and the cathedral (via a beautiful park—or pedestrianized city walls if you prefer!) and is very close to two good fish and chip bars. What more can you ask for? Plus, it is close to one of Canterbury’s train stations and the bus station. This was important to us as we were traveling by foot and on public transportation. Clare Ellen is owned and operated by a family who prides itself on maintaining a high standard of quality and comfort. Our room was super clean and comfortable, well furnished with chairs, a small table, nice television, and a small fridge. The owner “apologized” that our room had older fixtures and furnishings (including a wonderful bathtub!) but it was perfect, no apologies or “upgrades” needed as far as we were concerned. Evenings in with some takeaway eats were a pleasure. Mornings began with a first-class full English breakfast, fat trimmed from the bacon because that’s what guests prefer, according to the owner. And satisfying guests is what Ahmad and his crew strive for at Clare Ellen. A greater than average assortment of dry cereals, yogurt, and fruit were also available. Breakfast was cheerfully served in a spotless, comfortable, and tastefully appointed dining room. We enjoyed pleasant and intelligent conversation each morning with Ahmad, and he offered useful insights into local attractions and nearby towns worth taking a look at. When we return to Canterbury, and we will at some point in the future, we will without a doubt stay at Clare Ellen again. Thank you, Ahmad, for the lovely accommodations and for your exceptional hospitality. Such qualities are as memorable to travelers as any castle or cathedral.
