“Wonderful stay in every way!”
Reviewed 11 June 2014

We stayed here for a wedding weekend in early June 2014, from arrival to departure our stay at the White House was faultless. Adrian is a great host, cheerful, helpful and knowledgeable about Canterbury.

Our room was on the top floor with a comfy bed and handy en-suite bathroom. It was a warm summers day when we arrived, and this room did get quite rather warm, but there was no problem sleeping with the window open, being located on a quiet street just away from the busier St Peters St. noise was certainly not a problem.

Breakfasts were to a high standard, with three choices on the menu, including a full English, Scrambled eggs and smoked salmon, and vegetarian options. If you wanted something else the hosts would be able to get that for you too.

Compared to some B&B's I had stayed at in the past, The White House was a joy to stay at, it seemed to have a real mixed range of guests, at breakfast there is none of that 'awkward' feeling that can happen - this is down to the relaxed yet professional way the guest house is run.

I would not hesitate to recommend The White House to anyone visiting Canterbury / Kent, after taking weekend breaks to London, Canterbury is a breath of fresh air, a beautiful compact city with great people, shopping and restaurants (too many restaurants to chose from!)

What a warm welcome we had, nothing was too much bother for the owner who checked us in early so we could go to the theatre. We had Room 7 which was at the top of the house overlooking the Marlowe. Room fresh and bright with large bed and good shower room. Breakfast freshly cooked to order and again the owner was more than accommodating of any requests. All in all a lovely stay which we would highly recommend to others wanting a stay right in the centre of the city.

Just got back from a weekend break in Canterbury with some friends. We all stayed at The White House and all thought it was wonderful. Adrian was a very attentive and friendly host. The room (we had room 1 and our friends had room 4 I think) was lovely and had a super king size bed. Everywhere very clean and extremely well presented. The breakfast was excellent and the position of the B&B was perfect, just off the main High Street but surprisingly quiet. Adrian had informed us about the parking in advance and provided us with the parking voucher for the car park across the street so that was excellent value too. Definitely a 5 star experience all round. Many thanks to Adrian and Sharon for a lovely weekend.

The White House in Canterbury was just the type of B&B accommodation I was looking for. I stayed for four nights in a compact but attractive double room with a very large bathroom (room 2). The room was clean, comfortable and attractively decorated. Breakfast was consistently excellent. The location was convenient for Canterbury sightseeing, right in the historic area, and for trains. Adrian and Sharon were welcoming and attentive: ideal hosts.

We enjoyed a two night stay at this lovely B&B. The whole property is well maintained and fantastically clean. Decor is tasteful and rooms very comfortable. Attentive host, good breakfast - not much more to add other than agree with everything the other five star reviews have already said.

I will definitely be returning next time I'm in Canterbury.

Just got back from staying at this wonderful place, attention to every detail could not be faulted, we got there much earlier than planned, this wasn't an issue, beautiful room and a wonderful breakfast with some background music which was such a nice touch. Everything is just 5 minutes away, wonderful city and such a wonderful place to stay

We stayed here last night so we could have a night out in Canterbury. What a gem of a find. Convenient in the hustle and bustle of town, parking for 24hrs £6 with a voucher from the proprietor which is literally 2 minutes walk away. Lovely host, lovely clean rooms, fantastic breakfast we will be returning when we fancy a meal out in Canterbury again.

If you enjoy staying in stylish accommodation, with all those extra little personal touches that make you feel special as a guest, then welcome to The White House. The property is an elegant Grade II listed Regency Town House, originally reputed to have been the retirement home of Queen Victoria's Head Coachman and built in 1825. Our 4 Star Highly Commended accommodation is especially suited to discerning guests seeking a small intimate property (regrettably we do not cater for children) and its ideal location, within the City walls, is an added bonus for those who enjoy soaking up the vibrant atmosphere of a University city and who appreciate good old fashioned personal service to the impersonality of national hotel chains. Rooms are furnished to ensure maximum guest comfort - large cosy beds to fall into after a hard days sightseeing, soft pillows, with cool contemporary white linens and quality furnishings to ensure a real 'home from home'. A few minutes walk (literally!) will take you right into the main High Street, so we are perfectly situated to browse all the best shops, restaurants and of course a 'must see' visit to the Cathedral and perhaps take in a show at the stunning new Marlowe Theatre.Parking couldn't be easier - across the road in the Pound Lane Car Park - with concessionary vouchers available to our guests at £6.00 for 24 hours ... more   less
