We have just had our wedding here and it was absolutely amazing!! The rooms were brilliant and the staff all so friendly and helpful. We really could not have asked for a better location and venue to celebrate our wedding day!! Pete and Catherine made sure that our day ran smoothly and they had thought of absolutely everything. All of our friends and family have been talking about the lodge ever since and everybody absolutely loved it. We really can't fault it and will definitely be recommending to people in the future and hopefully coming back to stay to remind us of our amazing wedding day. Thank you x

We stayed for one night costing £99, which seems expensive but it did include breakfast and entry to the cathedral. The views from the bedroom were great, and good to have free wi-fi. The room was a bit small but very nice, clean and had a bay window. The staff were really friendly. The breakfast was however a let down. Full English was not cooked very well at all. However, we would stay here again as the view and location was great.

Dear Reviewer

Thank you for providing feedback on your recent stay with us and I am delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay.

I am however sorry to find that you were disappointed with breakfast, particularly as we have recently extended our Continental offering and also cook the Full English breakfast to order, to further improve our standards. Should you have spoken to a member of our team, they would have been pleased to replace for you, but I will certainly investigate further to fully address your comments.

We do look forward to seeing you again soon.

Kind regards

We booked late to stay in Canterbury so I could go shopping. We booked a room with the view of the cathedral and also a parking space.

When we arrived at reception we had a very friendly greeting and book in was very easy.

The room was spotless and so comfortable. At night we walked round the ground s of the cathedral.

Breakfast was included and was lovely and the service was first rate.

I would so go back and to top it off the room came with free free entry to the cathedral which we got in to early before anyone else got there.

Perfect breakx

Room Tip: Spend a little extra to park in the cathedral car park and get a room with a view of the cathedral.

This hotel provided a delightful stay, once we found it! The hotel is virtually on the grounds of the Canterbury Cathedral, with beautiful gardens and buildings everywhere. The rooms are modern and spacious; the service and food were excellent. The town itself is also quite beautiful. The only problem was trying to find the entrance to the hotel with a GPS. You get directed to a street that is pretty much pedestrians only, with limited access allowed for vehicles. Then you find that there isn't a hotel at the listed street address, and when you finally ask somebody or call, you get the proper directions to a parking area that leads to an entrance at what is really the back of the hotel. Call first for directions if you're driving, and don't rely on the GPS! It's worth it.

Room Tip: Many rooms have a view of the cathedral - be sure to ask for one.

Dear Reviewer

Many thanks for taking the time to post a review. We are delighted that you enjoyed your recent stay with us and I will certainly pass your kind comments on to the team.

I would also like to take this opportunity to apologise for the issues you experienced in locating the hotel and to provide some clarification for future guests reading this post who are arriving by car:

The Cathedral Precincts has only 2 gates that are accessible by car. The Postern gate is open until 6pm, after which the Christchurch gate is used for access. Both gates are situated on Burgate. Unfortunately if our post code is entered into a sat nav device, the driver is misdirected and will miss the entrances on Burgate. We therefore advise all guests using sat nav to enter “Burgate, Canterbury” to ensure they are correctly directed by their device. The Postern gate is less than 100m down Burgate, located on the right hand side, immediately after the Thomas Ingoldsby public house. The Christchurch gate is several hundred metres further down Burgate, located in the cobbled Butter Market square, and is quite unmistakeable as a large 16th Century gate with huge oak doors.

We do hope that the difficulty in finding us is more than compensated by our unique location and views.

Kind regards

Joanne Thompson

We stayed for 1 night mid week at costing £99 b&b in a 1st floor cathedral view room with bay window seating area. The room was very pleasant, had wheelchair space, and had a wonderful view of both the manicured gardens and cathedral. The bathroom had shower cubicle, heated towel rail and vanity style sink & wc - on the small side but made very good use of the available space. There are 2 of these larger rooms on the 1st floor and 1 on the ground floor, though the views are better from the 1st floor and there's an elevator. Breakfast was great and included full English & a few other menu options too. We pre-booked on site car parking and this costs £5 (free for blue badge holders) from check-in to check-out only due to the limited number of spaces. Canterbury town centre is just a few yards away from the peaceful lodge and there are some lovely independent shops, as well as the larger generic stores. And as a resident you are also entitled to approx 10% dining discount at certain restaurants/pubs.

What a joy our visit was. This is a truly unique hotel; not many can boast that they have Canterbury Cathedral on their doorstep (literally). A pervasive atmosphere of history augmented our stay and free access to the Cathedral was the cherry atop our booking. The rooms are very clean, comfortable and modern. We had en suite facilities that were also well maintained and very clean. Breakfast was superb and the restaurant was bright and cheerful. Staff were also fantastic and were helpful with informing us all the discounted eateries we had access to as guests of the Cathedral (10% off many restaurants....another added boon). In short, great stay, would definitely go again.

So I had to attend a conference in Canterbury... Decided at the very last minute( night before my visit to canterbury) that its best to stay over rather than commute. Called a few hotels, one of which was this. I was informed the only room available was the "value" lodge... And that included the breakfast. Price was ok plus it was a discounted deal. I booked...

I arrived to find out that it was in the grounds of the Cathedral. As it was "value" I was not expecting anything great.

The lodges' main entrance is beautiful with flowers. Young lady greeted me at reception, took me to the value lodge which is situated behind the main lodge. No lift but not a problem for me(consider this when booking this particular part of the lodge)

I was surprised when I entered my room. It looked like it had been recenlty renovated. With lovely purply/lilac decor. Well thought out. En suite! Twin bed with lovely linen. To top it up... there was tea/coffee making facilities in the room.

Ok for a last minute booking, and with it being "value" I was very pleased with what I got. The other thing to note is that guests booking here have a free entrance into the cathedral.

Breakfast was decent... although I had to beg, literally beg for ice cubes like 3 times before it arrived.Oh no,,,, Ice is important to me;-)

All the same, my sleep was sound, and I enjoyed my short stay in the lodge... considering it was there "value lodge". I intend to book here again. Would be lovely for a weekend away.

Dear Reviewer

Thank you for leaving such positive feedback and we are delighted that you chose to stay with us whilst attending a conference. You are absolutely correct that our Burgate Annexe accommodation has all recently been refurbished, so it is wonderful to find that this is appreciated!

I am pleased to advise that our breakfast offering has also recently been extended however as our main function bar is located in an adjacent building and ice is not usually requested at breakfast time, please do accept my apologies that this was not readily available.

We do hope that you are able to return to stay for a weekend soon.

Kind regards

Joanne Thompson
