There is something rather fun about being a resident of the Cathedral Close after the gates have closed and the tourists have left. The Lodge is attached to a new conference centre and I can imagine it gets very full when events are being held. In August, however, it was quiet without being empty and provided a very enjoyable stay.
The room was large, well-furnished and comfortable, albeit up two flights of stairs in a separate, older building. The reception staff were very welcoming, explained the slightly complicated parking and entry arrangements clearly and provided a leaflet giving discounts at several nearby cafes and restaurants.
Breakfast was good and the waiting staff were friendly. We were even able to eat outside on the terrace (not a frequent occurrence in England!). We will certainly stay again next time we visit East Kent.
