second visit here. stayed in 112 on ground floor with views of cathedral roof. lots of french visitors, plus peregrine falcon perched on spire.

hotel still of good standard though you pay a premium for the location, which is well worth it.

breakfast staff still need training, this time our toast order got lost.

Dear Reviewer

Many thanks taking the time to review your second visit to us – we are thrilled to hear you returned again!

We do place a great emphasis on training and are currently in the process of refreshing this with the whole Breakfast team to ensure that our consistently good standards of service are maintained. Unfortunately however errors do occur on occasion, so please do accept my apologies that you toast was forgotten.

I do hope that we will be able to welcome you for a third stay in the not too distant future.

Kind regards

Joanne Thompson

Stayed here to visit our son at University. Initially I was somewhat frustrated that my wife had booked me into a "conference centre"! You know the score! Heavily used rooms, terrible toiletries that you wouldn't even use to clean the loo and the dreaded shower curtain! Only bettered by rubbish stodgy food cooked by a 16 year old with a working knowledge of microwaves!

BUT! Not here in Canterbury!

This place exudes warmth, cleanliness, attention to detail and an amazing breakfast that was cooked to order! No more wet scrambled eggs in some soulless container staying warm accompanied by beans that had become one cement like red covering! Oh no this breakfast was one of the best I have had considering that last week I was IN SF at the Mark Hopkins a true 5 star and this "conference centre" beat it hands down.

From check in to leaving we were made to feel "valued". Our room although small was furnished in modern colours and had everything we needed for a one night stay. The view of the Cathedral was spectacular, especially at night and the WiFi was fast and easy to access for our IPAD.

They make the simple things seem easy and with this central location it is incredibly hard to better. We will stay again soon, although I don't think our son will be best pleased that we are "invading" his University experience. The next time we visit we will stay here and not tell him!

Canterbury Cathedral Lodge you deserve all the plaudits and to the gentleman who offered me his umbrella to help me to the car in a downpour then thank you! That is service you would expect from The Savoy. Well done.

Room Tip: Unless you are at The Abode don't waste your money staying anywhere else in Canterbury. This...

There is something rather fun about being a resident of the Cathedral Close after the gates have closed and the tourists have left. The Lodge is attached to a new conference centre and I can imagine it gets very full when events are being held. In August, however, it was quiet without being empty and provided a very enjoyable stay.

The room was large, well-furnished and comfortable, albeit up two flights of stairs in a separate, older building. The reception staff were very welcoming, explained the slightly complicated parking and entry arrangements clearly and provided a leaflet giving discounts at several nearby cafes and restaurants.

Breakfast was good and the waiting staff were friendly. We were even able to eat outside on the terrace (not a frequent occurrence in England!). We will certainly stay again next time we visit East Kent.

Room Tip: Rooms in the new building are more accessible than those in the old.

We had a lovely city break in this hotel, a spacious and comfortable room, in an unusual building right in the Cathedral Close. Breakfast was excellent and freshly cooked, entrance to the Cathedral was included in the price, which was an added bonus. Access to the Cathedral Close after hours felt very special, and gave us the chance to enjoy the building in peace. We were struck by how quiet it was once we got inside the gates on the Saturday night, since outside in the cit it was a lively Saturday night. Recommended for couples.

Like other reviewers we found the rooms and beds small. This did not matter as everything else was perfect. The location is wonderful, very quiet you can enjoy the Cathedral and its grounds as the Hotel gives you a free pass. At night the Cathedral is floodlit, quite beautiful. The staff are helpful and friendly and breakfast was excellent with quick and efficient service. We hope to return.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the second floor with a Cathedral view.

Stayed here one Sunday night for an anniversary celebration. The room rate includes entry to the Catherdral which is totally breathtaking and a must....
Can't speak highly enough, room was lovely, clean and overlooking the Catherdral, the gardens are beautiful, really peaceful as you'd imagine, it's a place where you can just sit back and listen to the birds and if you are lucky enough choir singing taking place in the Catherdral itself! Staff can't do enough for you, they booked us a table at Deesons (great food) and followed that by offering us a 10% discount voucher to take along. We ordered a bottle of red wine from our room which was reasonably priced and very good quality....Breakfast is amazing, every choice you could imagine in a lovely bright and airy room....just perfect
All in all we had a wonderful time and would return without a seconds thought.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a bay window

The Cathedral Lodge is in an incredible location right within the secured Cathedral Grounds. We had a wonderful view of the Cathedral from our room. The hotel staff were very friendly and the breakfast was excellent. It was a great place to stay for an evening. However, it is very basic and the rooms are small with small beds.

Dear Reviewer

Many thanks for posting a review and we are delighted that you enjoyed your recent stay with us.

We have recently extended our breakfast offering, so it is wonderful to receive positive feedback about this! Our bedrooms are simply furnished with standard sized beds, however we would hope that you agree this has been done to a high standard, with the highlight being the fabulous view of Canterbury Cathedral from the window!

Kind regards
