“Such great staff”
Reviewed 2 November 2013

This hotel was perfect for us, and good value for money, with free access to the Cathedral (normally £10) The room was fine, good shower, bed comfy, TV which worked and plenty of space. But the reason for writing this review was to give huge credit to the lovely staff who could not have tried harder to make sure we had a good time. From making restaurant bookings to printing off info about the local beach resorts, every time we asked them to help they did so with good humour and courtesy. So rare these days to find people who go above and beyond their job spec, so - Thank-you to the Cathedral Lodge staff - we will be back!!!

We stayed in the lodge for 3 nights at the end of October and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone wanting a relaxing stay.

We parked in the Cathedral grounds and had free access to the cathedral which is magnificent. The gates are locked at night and it does not feel like you are in the city center.

The lodge room was clean and adequate in size with views over the Cathedral, the shower was powerful with plenty of hot water. There are no noisy guests to spoil the stay and the breakfast was perfect. All the staff were polite and helpful, we would certainly visit again.

Perhaps they could make more use of the kitchen facilities by providing evening meals but this did not detract from a wonderful stay as there are plenty of places to eat in the town.

Dear Reviewer

It is wonderful to read that you had an enjoyable stay with us at Canterbury Cathedral Lodge! We really do value that time our guests take to review their stay and all comments are much appreciated.

Although we do not offer restaurant service in our Refectory, we do cater for pre-booked groups and have a range of facilities available for celebrations, meetings and events. As we are located in the centre of the City there are also a wide range of restaurants, bars and cafes nearby and we have negotiated a discount with several of these for our residential guests.

With kind regards

Staying in the grounds of Canterbury Cathedral was wonderful, especially walking back to the hotel at night beneath the lights of the Cathedral. The hotel was spotlessly clean and our room was the perfect size for the two nights we stayed. The bathroom was more than adequate and there was even a heated towel rail. It would have been good to have had some herbal teas and the coffee in the room wasn't very nice. The breakfast, however, was delicious. There was plenty to choose from and it was of a very high quality. The hotel is situated in the very centre and the main places to go are a stone's throw away. We would most definitely stay again and highly recommend it.

We stayed at the lodge for 3 nights recently, what a truly special place. Once the gates close you would never know you are in the heart of a city. Peaceful and relaxing, with the most helpful reception staff I have ever come across. Breakfast was superb with a good choice and cooked to order, and the staff helpful. The rooms maybe on the smaller side, but ours had everything and more that we needed, they were spotlessly clean and there was something rather solid and reassuring about them. A joy to find such a place!

A lovely setting, and the room was well appointed, spotlessly clean and with a view of the Cathedral. The whole place is peaceful, and the staff were all friendly and attentive. Breakfast was excellent both the food and the service. Can't wait to come back.

Room Tip: Get a room with a Cathedral view, it's stunning

My boyfriend and I, stayed here for a night early this week for a quick getaway.

The staff are fantastic, they are all extremley polite and attentive. The staff at breakfast were also extremley good (although they did forget the black pudding i ordered!)

The room was good, although a little small it was extremley comfortable and clean and it was so peaceful and quiet.

The location was brilliant, with free entry to the cathedral (must-see) it's absoutley beautiful, and the main highstreet is literally seconds away.

The breakfast was also very enjoyable, and extremley tasty.

I would defenitley return.

We opted t stay here for the second leg of our 3 part Honeymoon, We were very pleased with our choice. The situ of the hotel is breathtaking, with most rooms benefitting from cathedral views. Hotel clean and tidy with warm, attentive staff,

Rooms are small and slightly overpriced but the location makes up for this shortfall. When you take in to account that you hvae free access to the cathedral and grounds much later than pulic opening you can forgive the price for a small room. That said the rooms were perfectly adequate. we only stayed one evening before moving on but enjoyed ourselves none the less.

Breakfast was lovely with a vast array of continental options and a hot menu.

Pros and many, Cons are minimal but the pillows were not fantastic and the surprising lack of a toilet brush and bath for the room rate. I know a toilet brush is an odd thing to miss but we were surprised with the lack of such an essential.

Perfect location to explore the Catherdral and City.

Dear Reviewer

Congratulations on your recent wedding and thank you for choosing to spend part of your Honeymoon with us!

We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay here and were able to appreciate our special location within the Precincts. You are absolutely right that our rates include Cathedral entry and a full English breakfast, so on most occasions with these inclusions, we are actually less expensive than other 4* Canterbury City centre hotels.

Thank you also for your comment regarding the lack of a toilet brush. We continually monitor feedback in order to take on board our guests’ views; however I hope you will understand that we specifically choose not to place a toilet brush in the bathrooms as it is not possible to provide it in a 100% hygienically fresh state for each new arriving guest.

With kind regards
