“Fabulous, Simply Fabulous....”

Having spent a wonderful evening at Michael Cains for our Anniversary celebration I can fully recommend this Venue which has prompted me to leave my first review.
The service was superb & the staff were attentive & knowledgeable. Having our wines & port matched to our menu for us & having a few words of introduction for each course or drink being served to us was a really nice touch.
The food was prepared to perfection, we sampled a selection from the menu & everything brought to us was a delight. Hard to choose a favourite but if pressed I would have to say the Beef. Incredible.
The atmosphere was warm friendly & relaxed, we never felt the need to do anything other than enjoy our time there & after nearly 3 hours we left feeling thoroughly spoilt.

“Impressive - Should charge more - delicious”
Reviewed 6 September 2010

We went for dinner with my in-laws, who love their michelin and top end food (rightly so!) and we were delighted that they thought it was a genuine 5 star evening...

We enjoyed drinks in the bar, where they brought canapes, then at dinner we had pre-starters, starters (chicken liver, scallops x2, mackerel), mains (beef, pork belly x3), pre-dessert and then dessert (1xsomething v nice!)... with the wines and coffee, it was an absolute treat... especially as it was only £25 each (food)!! You could easily have expected double.

I thought the staff were really great too, knew everything from the 4 types of bread, to the local sourcing... Which isnt a huge priority for me to know, but think foodies like that approach so they feel lofty... which this restaurant isnt about - great local photos, funky faded orange lighting, v good job!

If you stay at Abode, dont go to their other food place, it's more of a pub, check this place out for sure!!

“very nice but waitress needs to know about the menu”
Reviewed 31 August 2010

Had Sunday lunch here on the 29th Aug.
Very well priced at 3 courses for £19.95 but when asked the waitress about ceratin items on the menu she had to walk away each time and ask somebody else and also the same with drinks.
Food was lovely and the fish i had was cooked to perfection.
Would recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking good, quality food at very reasonable prices. Enjoy this place so much better than The Goods Shed (which we had dined at the night before!) - would of been even better though if the waitress knew what certain foods on the menu were.

“Formal Dinner Event - really excellent”
Reviewed 26 August 2010

We booked places at one of the "Dinner with Michael Caines" events. The menu and wine selections are published beforehand on their web site - so you know exactly what you get. And with the promise of Michael describing each course, and Steve Edwards introducing each wine. Although we have attended many wine dinners in the past, this was our first at an Abode restaurant.

The reception of guests and overall service was extremely efficient, with Michael doing the rounds (rather like a hospital consultant!) and introducing himself to each guest before the start of the dinner. In this case guests were seated as booked, rather than large mixed tables. We were both very appreciative of the words from both Michael and Steve - they were all very insightful and informative, and professionally delivered. The food and wines were uniformally excellent through all courses. It was evident that great thought had been put into their creation and selection of matching wines. What was particularly touching was the presentation of all the cooking and waiting staff to the dinners at the end. It was very evident that Michael has created a very happy team at this restaurant.

Overall this was a truly excellent event, and we considered it great value for money considering the quality of both food and wines. We shall be tracking future events and returning to this or another Abode hotel in the future. We also noticed their excellent "Grazing Menu" scheme, available at lunch, and shall try this at some stage.

“The taster menu was superb”
Reviewed 22 August 2010

We ate there last night for our wedding anniversary and also stayed at the hotel. We had the taster menu and thought it was out of this world. The value for money is amazing and we have eaten at places like the fat duck and gordon ramsays and although the service is slightly more relaxed it is still of a fine dining quality, I would say the food was on a par. Our only disappointment was to find out Michael Caines does not cook at the restaurant apart from 4 times a year but the food is faultless - the sweetbreads were a sensation !
