“Great value stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 August 2008

We had a good stay at the Holiday Inn on a B&B/one night's dinner 2 night package at £99 for 3 of us (2 adults, 1 child). It's impossible to beat that value.

The room was almost the furthest possible from reception, and down a small flight of stairs, which was a pain with a pushchair, child and suitcases to man-handle. They shouldn't allocate rooms which are not lift-accessible without thinking IMHO.

We didn't eat in the restaurant for our evening meal because it was fully booked until late in the evening, but we were given a £20/head allowance for bar meals which was actually ample. And our daughter ate for free all weekend. The food was very good and the drinks in the bar weren't excessively expensive for a hotel (£3.25/pint).

The location is out of town - but near the motorway - and it doesn't take long to get into Rochester or Chatham by car (or bus if you needed to).

The only fly in the ointment (apart from the 10 minute route march to the room) was that they tried to overcharge us, by charging for the kids' meals in full when they should have been free, and it took about 10 minutes to sort out this billing error.

But I'd stay there again without a doubt.

I use this hotel on business as a last resort if I can't get into another better hotel nearby.
It's OK, with Holiday Inn, you know what you're going to get. Rooms never seem that well cleaned to me, cobwebs etc, but the beds and carpets are always good.
Restaurant is below average in my opinion and the service matches it!
Value for money though, if you want a cheap stay for one night, its worth it.

We stayed at here Aug 9th and can agree with comments of previous person re labyrinth of corridors, everywhere does seem rather a long way away. However, all in all this was a good stay, we paid £45 for myself, hubby and 15 year old daughter bed & breakfast which is great value! The breakfast was very good with a large selection of hot and cold foods. I would reccommend this hotel.

We had just an overnight stay here. Hotel was clean and confortable enough. Lobby/Reception area very small. Had some bar snacks and drinks in the bar area which were fine.

Our room was modern and newly renovated but was the longest distance I've ever travelled from reception! Honestly, it took ages througha labyrinth of corridors and up and down steps etc. I do sometimes wonder if some hotel receptionists take delight in putting you the furthest away they can, even if not they're not full! LOL.

Overall a good stay and would stay there again.

We arrived late on a Saturday night, having called in the afternoon to reconfirm our booking and ask for a twin room. The reception / lobby area was incredibly crowded and noisy with drunken partygoers in the corridor. The staff were not particularly welcoming or helpful and the only room available was a double. We were given directions to our room which involved walking along a lengthy corridor to a dilapidated lift, then an even longer corridor retracing our route on the first floor. Just as we were reaching our allocated room, the unhelpful receptionist appeared from a side door and told us there had been a double booking and we had to go to another room. He said we had to go all the way back to reception to get new keys and then all the way back to the new room. He did not offer to carry our cases and would not let us use the flight of stairs to reception he had just come up as it was a 'staff shortcut'.

The room itself was bog standard Holiday Inn, pretty dated, old fashioned TV with very few channels, budget toiletries. Not worth anything near what they charge.

I arrived quite late at night after a car journey from Stansted Airport. Check-in was friendly & efficient, despite the bar area by the reception being very full & noisy with a large group/party. The room was comfortable, clean, quiet & very pleasant, with a spotless bathroom & a very comfortable bed. The air conditioning worked well. Although I'm sometimes restless in a strange bed for the first night, I slept like a stone! Breakfast was excellent, with a full choice of fresh fruit, cereals, yoghurt, plus the full cooked breakfast buffet. Table service with coffee/tea was good. I would certainly stay here again.

The first thoughts we had when pulling up to the hotel was how dated it looked, but the ample free parking & trendy decor in the reception area soon changed our opinion.

We were greeted at the front desk by a very friendly chap, and given our room keys.

After a short walk & elevator ride, we arrived at our room. Initial impressions were how small the room was, but it was very cosy and tidy, and even had a fridge! As we wanted a lie-in the next morning, I called the reception, and was given confirmation that would could have the room until 2pm.

The shower was really nice, and after eating out, we decided to hit the sack. Note that everything was fine up until this point.

So, the bad points:

* The bed was a very small & uncomfortable 'double' - My feet hung off the edge of the bed, and width wise, it was more like a 4ft!

* Temperature - Even with the air conditioning on full chat, it was still unbearable. We had to resort to keeping the window open all night.

* Noise - As the window was open all night, we heard a lot of noise (choppers especially) from the adjacent airport. Even when we retreated and closed the window, you could still hear background noise.

* Phone Call - At approx 12:40pm, we got a call from a very snotty female receptionist, demanding to know why we hadn't checked out yet.

Check out was a breeze, and again, a very friendly chap was on hand. We didn't use the restaurant or leisure facilities, so cannot comment on these.

If we hadn't paid £39 for bed & breakfast, I'd have asked to speak to Management. However, we've learned from the experience, and will stay elsewhere in future.

  • Liked — Room cleanliness
  • Disliked — Bed, Noise and Temperature
